Recently visited Walton's Mountain Museum and Earl Hamner's House in Schuyler, VA. The only question I have is there were 8 children in the Hamner family and only 7 are portrayed on the Waltons. Who got left out and why?

There were actually 8 Hamner children but two sons were condensed into the character of Ben Walton leaving 7 children in the actual television show. The model for Ben Walton came from two brothers. Bill Hamner (l) died in 1989. His wife, Brenda, lives in the Richmond, Virginia area. Bill's three children are Harold, Hope and Gail. Paul Hamner (r) lives in Tom's River, New Jersey and is retired from the Baker Shoe Store chain. Paul and his wife, Etta, have two children, Paul Jr. and Doris. The mother of the Hamner's used to joke that CBS could only afford 7 children.

The baby which died before birth was to be named Joyce (Joy for short) Walton. Though Jim-Bob wanted to name him Seymour if he was a boy.
Speaking of Joseph Zebulon (Jim Bob's twin)--did anyone notice that in one of the later episodes (I believe it's one where Cindy is expecting), someone jokes that it could be twins. Erin then replies that "twins don't run in our family." Hello? Would we not remember that Olivia had twins?

There again, the writers weren't keeping track of previous episodes.

There was an episode later where JimBob mentioned his brother, I think. It may have been the one where Ep and Sarah Bridges adopt a teenager named Joe and his little sister. There was an episode like that wasn't there? In the book Spencer's Mtn., the family had 11 children.

You might be thinking of the episode the Secret where Jim Bob discovers that he has a twin brother that died at birth.
I have notice that in the book, we get to meet the kids of the grandparents. Clay had several brothers

No, this one was after JimBob knew about Joe, his brother. He became friends with this other boy Joe, who was his age.

Goodnight, I know what you're talking about, but don't know what episode that was in.

You are thinking about The Flight in which Jimbob meets Joe Douglas from Falls Church, Virginia. This episode was initially shown 34 years ago this coming Thursday, December 1,1977. There had not been a Walton's the previous Thursday because of Thanksgiving, but during the first week in December 1977 The Waltons were on three times. It all began with The Flight on December 1, then the two hour Childrens Carol on Mondqy December 5 and then The Milestone was shown on Thursday December 8
