Are the rumors true that Season 8 and 9 will not be released on DVD? According to Warner Bros they only allowed send 2 DVD per year so we would have to wait until sometime early next year. They probably will make an announcement sometime in late Sept or October.

This is the first time I have heard anything like that. Unless there was some problem with some of the production of the season's tapes there should be no difficulty in releasing the last two seasons when the time comes.

Tracey is right. Warner Brothers has been releasing 2 seasons a year since Seasons 4 and 5 both came out in 2007, and 6 and 7 this year. Warner said they would release all 9 seasons, but it seems like an eternity when you're waiting for them! I'd guess that Season 8 would be out in January, 2009 and Season 9 in April.

I will be happy when they release a definite date on when Season 8 and 9 will be released, so that I can start to count down the time. Of course, I still have to enjoy the 3,4,5,6, and 7th Seasons first!

It's odd. I went to the WIKI site and it says that Sony has decided to end the series run on DVD since the cast changed so much in the final seasons. I hope it's only rumour. Barb

Me too, Barby. Remember you can't believe everything you read of Wikipedia. It is not reliable.

Which Wiki site said this? That seems like a very odd reason not to release a show on DVD. You'd have very few TV shows out on DVD if you stopped releasing the seasons in which the casts changed. That hasn't stopped them from releasing Dallas or Little House, which handled character and actor changes at least as poorly as The Waltons.

I really hope that's a rumor. I'd love to own the entire series on DVD one day soon!!

stldan...the site is wiki.answers.com, and yes I agree with you that it is a very odd reason not to release a show on DVD. I am on board with waltonsfan1972 till proven otherwise. Barb :-)

Barb- I doubt the credibility of "wiki", too. If they said "Sony" has decided to end the series run, then they don't know what they're talking about. Warner Brothers owns the Waltons series, not Sony. The only exception is "The Homecoming" movie, which is owned by CBS- Paramount.

Go look at Netflix, they have the spots for The waltons Season 8 and 9 already to go. I would think that a powerhouse such as Netflix knows more about releases than wiki.

I have heard the same thing. Apparently they are only allowed to produce a certain amount of DVDs per year. I do believe thought that the rumor about not doing any more DVDs because of the age of the cast is just that...a rumor. Dianne Dianne
