Two things- I think it's to the credit of the actors and the writers that we remember these characters, no matter how infrequently they actually appeared. Second, I'm betting that they did show up more often in later episodes to fill out some of the roles as the adult leads left the show. My memory of later seasons would certainly be better than of these earlier earlier seasons that I'm only now remembering as I watch them on DVD. I think the first episode I actually remember watching first run was the one when Olivia and the two young kids are lost in the woods. That's season 4 I think? Haven't even gotten to that particular episode on DVD yet. That's correct stldan "The Search" is from Season 4 where Olivia, Jim-Bob, & Elizabeth get lost in the woods.

Did we ever establish whether it was Shelia Allen or her sister who played the part of the radio announcer in the movie A League of Their Own who said that girls should not be brought from the farms to play baseball? At least she looked a great deal like Miss Fannie!

First I know this is a very old thread and actually a thread that started and the last post was before I was even born , but I liked the topic and wanted to give my two cents on the neighbors. We see some of the neighbors pretty regularly like The Godsey's, The Baldwins, Yancy, Flossie, Verdie and Harley, Zuleika Dunbar and the several Reverend's that they had. The rest of the neighbors seem to just pop up from time to time. There definitely had to be other families living on the mountain because other kids went to the school and others went to the church. When you look at the location of the Walton house there seemed like there was nothing around the house. The closest thing to the house was down the dirt road and that was the Godsey's store & home. I think probably most of the neighbors lived in a different area than where the Waltons lived. Possibly in homes near the Boarding house . The Baldwin's home also seemed like it was a home that was not near anyone else's and Yancy's was kind of a shack not near anyone else's. Verdie and Harley also lived in a home that seemed to be away from all other homes.

How would you get to the store if you walked out the Walton's front door?

How would you get to the store if you walked out the Walton's front door? Sometimes the took the car or when Olivia rode the bike. Most of the time they walked down that dirt rode which was the same way they walked to school.

How would you get to the store if you walked out the Walton's front door? Godsey's store was less than a mile from the Walton home. It was a direct route pointed out by Ike a number of times.

Wasn't the Godsey's store/home not surrounded by anything else though? It didn't seem like there was another home next to it or near it.

^ Nope. There were no neighbourhoods in the Waltons. The closest things to the store were Godsey's Hall, Jim-Bob's garage (which we rarely saw), and the auto court in 'The Boosters' which, I believe, is never seen again.

It did look like Flossie might have had some neighbors with the boarding house even though we never saw any. The boarding house seemed to be on a paved road in more of a community area different from where The Waltons, Godsey's, Verdie & Harley, The Baldwin Sisters, Yancy, Fordwick's and other Reverends and those others that Mary Ellen would visit on her Nursing rounds.
