Does anyone know where the set for the interior of the Waltons house was located in relation to the house exterior? Obviously these were two different sets but they must have been in close proximity to each other, because of the frequency of going from indoors to outdoors. I think it would be interesting to know.

Hi there. I think the inside scenes were done in studio sets at Warner Brothers Studios. A lot of the outdoor scenes were shot at a place called Frazier Park near there I think. The old Waltons house was on the Warner Brothers ranch which I assume was were the studios were too. Notice I have a lot of, "I think" and "assume" here so someone else could probably be more sure on this.

inside and outside, dont have to be 'close' to each other, they are seperate scenes as far as production is concerned. For example a film may be 'set' in New York, but the interior may well be on the West Coast. It's just about editing really. Same with continuity. Perahps the ending will be filmed first or even half way through and the scenes in any order. Long as the cats know their lines for a pñarticular scene then everythings fine.

That's the name I was trying to come up with... Calico. Isn't she the one that died right after her babies were born?

Hey everyone and happy 2011!
We filmed the series mostly at the Warner Brothers Lot. Our interior scenes (Walton house,Ikes Store,Baldwin Sisters house) were on Stage 26. On the back lot was the exterior sets (Walton house, Ikes Store, Drucillas pond,Country roads). The church was on the "Western Set" and the schoolhouse and Charlottesville were in the "Mid-Western Set". On the Warners Ranch, was the Baldwins exterior house. We would also film on location at a little area called Franklin Canyon between the San Fernando Valley and Beverly Hills. Every year we would also go to Frazier Park and do exterior scenes (Wingwalker, Grandpas Funeral, fighting for the other Waltons-Boone et al). We would try to get the exteriors done and then move to the interiors (can't control weather---yet!) Hope this helps

Thanks Eric! We are very fortunate to have someone who was there explain how things happened. It's amazing how footage from all those locations were so seamlessly edited together into those great Walton stories.

Apparently the Western Set, on which the church stood, was knocked down a couple of years back. According to a para here: www.seeing-stars.com/studiotours/warnerbrostour.shtml the church is on the "Mid-West Street". This is different to what Eric said above, but in the series the chuch looked much more rural. Have they moved it? Here it a pic: www.flickr.com/photos/alan-light/970916699/I don't remember those stairs, though... have they raised it up, or isn't this the same church? The caption to that picture says the Walton schoolhouse is right nextdoor to the church too. What confusion! Has anyone the full story?
