I've been checking recipes for this, because I want to make it. I had pictured it in my mind to look like a regular cake in a 9" x 11" cake pan with the appearance of a spice cake...tannish white in color. What I find online looks like dark bundt cakes. I did not envision Liv's applesauce cake to look like a dark bundt. Any suggestions and has anyone actually made applesauce cake? I don't remember what it looked like on the show, but don't recall seeing anything similar to a bundt cake.
Here's what it looks like online and I found several recipes for applesauce cake and they all look like this pretty much.

So this is what it's supposed to look like? Can anyone remember seeing any of the Walton's eating Livy's cake and what it looked like?

I don't remember what it looked like on the show, but I do bake applesauce cakes, although I don't use Livvy's recipe. I always use a fluted tube or bundt pan and so did my mother and grandmothers and everyone I know. It takes a long time to bake and it's fairly dense. It's a definite brown, not tan, and the color depends on type of applesauce, whether the sauce is sweetened or unsweetened, whether you add cocoa or liquor, etc., etc. Remember though that Livvy frosted hers with a whiskey laced icing, so it probably would have appeared lighter on the show. Hope it helps! Now I want cake!

I have made this applesauce cake, and it was wonderful. I made it in a fluted pan, and although I dont' actually remember why, it must have been that I thought that is what they used on the show. My normal pan would be a 9 x13 pan. I took a lot of ribbing when I said it was Olivia's applesaue cake,,,,,,,,,lol.

Courtney, envisioning that in my head makes me want a slice of applesauce cake and a good steaming cup of coffee!
River, thank you thank you!! I printed them both out to compare and they're both the same!

Let me say first, I'm not a cook by any means. But I tried to bake an applesauce cake this past December. The recipe is for people with health problems so that would change the taste to begin with, so the fact that it tasted nasty wasn't ALL my fault. I mixed together 1 egg, 3 Tbsp Olive Oil, 1 cup applesauce, 1 tsp vanilla. Then I added 1 cup oat bran (I took a cup of oats and put it in a coffee grinder to make it into a powder.), 1 cup whole grain flour (whole grain tastes a lot different then processed bleached flour)., 1 tsp baking soda, 2 tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp stevia (I can't have sugar) and 1/4 cup maple syrup, 1/2 tsp allspice, 1/2 tsp ginger, 1/4 tsp cloves, 1/4 tsp salt (unprocessed sea salt); mix it together until just combined. Fold in 1/3 cup of raisins. Pour into a greased 8" pan and bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes. And after you taste it you'll wonder if Olivia tried to poison her children.
