I ask because her face is so lined in the seasons before her stroke, but not so much after (like maybe she quit and her face changed) No big deal. Just asking.

My parents' neighbor always like to be out in the sun and her face is so lined and she end up having facelift to get rid of the line at the age of 60 but now she's 70 and her lined is slowly coming back but never was a smoker.

I think her lined face is just part of the natural aging process. I always thought her skin looked great for her age. Most people seem to sag alot more. After the stroke though, it almost looked like something was pulling the skin tight back to the ears. Rather than her facial skin sagging, as would be natural, it was pulled tight to her ears.

It always appeared to me that after her stroke Ellen Corby probably had plastic surgery on the side of her face that was affected by the stroke. She always looked great though. Love her raspy voice too!

Love her raspy voice too! I didn't even think of that, but you're right... one side should have been sagging, at least for awhile after the stroke. Who was it that said on the reunion show that if Grandma and Grandpa would have been just plain old nice grandparents, then the show wouldn't have been as good as it was. That is so true!

I think it was Ellen Corby who suggested to Earl Hamner that Grandma should be a feisty person. Earl originally wrote the part with Grandma as a nice, sweet lady. Ellen told Earl he needed a feisty and outspoken character to keep the series from becoming too saccharine. Ellen Corby's insight proved correct and I think contributed to "The Waltons" being a long-running series, along with Will Geer being somewhat mischievous.

They were definitely the salt and pepper of the show!
