I think that is what they are called in the industry . anyway I dont watch the show on cable anymore I stream it on Amazon something and its unedited like the DVDs.
well, in season 6 they would have a quick little scene relevant to the main plot and show it b4 the opening credits.
IMO they are pretty weird. it is almost like a soap opera writer wrote it and the told the actors to ham it up a little. but THAT might be exactly what they were going for.
in the one that gw dies the " cold open" b4 the credits is John and pastor Hank fishing and John notices something is wrong with Hank. Hank says he has never presided over a funeral service before or something like that.
I like that one

I don't mind them so much in Season 6, but I find them kind of annoying in the later seasons, where they essentially show you all of the most dramatic scenes from the episode right from the start. It's like they thought people wouldn't be interested in watching unless they got a slice of drama beforehand to entice them. Maybe that was true, but it still kind of spoils the viewing experience. Especially when I was watching them for the first time.

Some of these were odd and hard to place in the episode itself. Others were better, but I didn’t miss them once they were eliminated.
