Eric Scott posted on Facebook that actor Tom Bower has passed away. He played Dr. Curtis Willard, Mary Ellen’s husband, on The Waltons. He also appeared in an earlier episode as a different character, the airplane pilot in “The Wingwalker” episode.

I'm so very sorry to hear this. He was brilliant when I met him in California. Intelligent, funny and incredibly charming. He said when he asked for a raise, they sent Curt to Pearl Harbor. Then when they asked him back and he asked again for that raise, they recast him with his buddy. Love to all his family, friends and fans

I remember meeting him there, and he was very nice.

Sorry to hear this. I believe he was 86. Still too young in my opinion.

I thought he was in his upper 70's. I didn't know he was 20 years older than Judy. I knew he was a bit older because Mary Ellen was a nursing student and Curt was a fully qualified doctor who had been practicing for several years when they got married so an older actor was needed for the part but I didn't realize it was that much of a gap in their ages. Not that it matters. They worked well together.

I subscribe to Judy's channel, so I learned of this there. I'm so sad. I just saw Day of Infamy, an incredibly moving episode. I met Tom in 2017, and he was so lovely. I read that his wife passed last August and they had never spent a day apart. It's very common for couples who are this close to pass away close together. Extra sad for the family they leave behind. ❤️ Rest in peace, Tom. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. 🕊

I was sorry to hear about Tom. I met him in Schuyler VA in March 2017 for Earl Hamner's memorial service and 45th Anniversary celebration of THE WALTONS. He and I discussed another project that he did, THE BALLAD OF GREGORIO CORTEZ. I mentioned that I had seen the dubbed version in Ecuador, and he went off on how movies should not be dubbed but rather subtitled to preserve the actors' original performances. Although I agreed with him, I also pointed out that dubbing makes films more accessible to more people. He was very nice and also introduced me to his wife Ursula, who passed away last year.
