This year I watched both versions of The Homecoming, one one day, and the other the next. Originally, I thought I'd enjoy whichever I saw second less, as I'd already seen one version of the story - however, I think it enhanced both that I was watching with an eye for what was changed, what was kept the same, and wondering at the reasons for everything. For the record, though I think the new Homecoming made some mistakes, I still think it's a great movie. anyway, I've always had this idea of a scene that re-contextualises Richard Thomas's introduction as an appearance by John-Boy and ties the two eras together. This Christmas, I wrote a short piece of fan fiction called The Big Time.I meant it to both a sort of epilogue to the original run (because it always made me sad that the actual ending was so open-ended) as well as a handing of the torch over to the 'new' Waltons. I thought I'd share it here, as I thought some of you might enjoy it although, disclaimer, if you absolutely despise the new movies, as I know some do, you probably won't enjoy this. Merry Christmas, everyone
