I follow Kami on Facebook. Recently she said that she would be watching the Christmas episodes in the coming days and comment on her memories of filming them. She started with this episode, The Spirit. This is what she wrote:

Brenda, thank you for sharing these! I don’t do Facebook so I would have never seen these. If it’s not too much trouble, please share any other Christmas episode insights she shares. Walton’s Christmas episodes are a holiday staple in my family.

I have been enjoying Kami's WALTONS Christmas memories. Incidentally, I received a picture signed back from Peter Fox (Reverend Hank Buchanon) this week. I wrote to him years ago and never heard back, but this time I did. He is doing well and lives in Ojai, CA. I always enjoyed his time on THE WALTONS and wondered why his name was changed to Reverent Mosely for the 90s TV reunion movies. Alas, another inconsistency!

Kami was obviously very impressed with this store scene from “The Children’s Carol” episode. I’m going to have to watch it again to see what she’s talking about.

So you and Kami inspired me to take another look at the store scene as well and I wound up watching the whole episode. I hadn't watched this one in awhile. I teared up watching Tess and Pip so withdrawn and forlorn after believing they lost their mum & dad in the bombing and again at the end of the episode hearing their mum talking to them over Jim-bob's homemade radio. Jason was visibly upset training for bayonet fighting, even giving up playing music to toughen himself for soldiering. Fortunately Dad was there to give him sage advice giving him the will to compose The Children's Carol in time for Christmas. Jim-bob talking to Allison in London on his short-wave set in the barn put a smile on my face (i think the writers got confused between shortwave which is used to listen to broadcast around the world and amateur radio, which even in the 1930s operators needed to be licensed in order to transmit by voice as Jim-bob was doing). Grandpa was visibly delighted when handed the microphone to talk 3800 miles across the ocean.
I didn't put together who Kami was talking about, a famous Australian singer, until I saw it was the actress who portrayed Tess. About the store scene, I don't have a well developed actor's eye to pick out the nuances Kami spoke of in putting that scene together.
