Okay even though I own the entire series that doesn't mean I don't watch The Waltons on Hallmark but it's frustrating sometimes because I know the show so well that I can tell the moment something has been edited out. Now I'm not complaining either because we're lucky to have the show on every night but sometimes the parts that have been cut out are essential to the story. I just got home from work right turned on the TV and The Bicycle was just starting and right away I knew a cut was coming. Here's where edits take something that's meaningful from the story as well all know Olivia has been asked to be the lead singer in the choir but she is also is feeling that no one listens to her like she's not important. When she goes to Ike's to get the bag of sugar John Boy forgot Ike encourages her to take ride the bike home even though she hasn't ridden one since she was a girl. As Olivia is riding the bike down the country road she starts to sing and that has been completely edited out and there's a quick cut to commercial. Why I think it's important is because Olivia riding that bicycle and singing out loud to herself allows her a moment of freedom a feeling of being young again. I know the edits are for more commercials just like the title sequence and end credits is sped up and we hear the show's theme song at a faster pace but sometimes the show loses that one little moment that's so meaningful.

I know exactly what you mean. I love MASH and there's 4 episodes on TV each day here in England, but bits keep being edited out because of longer adverts

The same thing happens to The Andy Griffith Show episodes I watch. One station shows more of it than the other. We often get to see the final scene on that station that we miss on the other one.

It is very frustrating indeed. We as fans of these shows want to watch them intact and view the entirety of the show in full. That is unfortunately not the case for the channel that is showing the shows each night. How they are getting paid is by plopping the commercials in many cases it seems every few minutes throughout these shows and in the case of the Waltons which runs an hour long with commercials they have to get every second of the ads in during that time so they get there money. This unfortunately does mean cuts from the show and even in many cases disruption of the flow of the show, especially for the big fans of the show. I prefer watching the shows without commercials, but I cannot always do that.
