My night off tonight reminded me of the Covid days watching The Waltons on Hallmark the entire evening. The Sinner is on right now and the first time we see John Ritter as Reverend Fordwick as well as the division between John and Olivia when it comes to religion. It was a good thing that Earl, writers and producers decided to keep John Ritter as the mountain's preacher and too bad that he eventually left for Three's Company. I think all the actors brought in that followed him were good but John Ritter well I think he was the best especially in this episode.

I loved that episode. Ironic that in the end John, the supposed “heathen” actually acted more Christian and forgiving than Olivia and Grandma. That episode seemed to have an undelyimg, message. (By the way, I loved the bathing suits).

I enjoyed that episode as well. It would have been nice if he stayed but he probably saw more of a future in Threes Company. I too believe their was an underlying message. Actually, there may have been more than one.

John Ritter became a star with Threes Company. I think he was the best preacher on Waltons Mountain. He definitely had a rough start, but settled in well. He had his issues while being the Reverend like the time of the book burning and the baptism by fire episode, but he was really well liked.

I agree. He did have some hard times but I think back then preachers/pastors didn’t study like they do or are supposed to do now. I think back then most did it by what they perceived to be their “calling”. They used their interpretations of the Bible which is what they do now but in more depth. I’m glad John-Boy persisted because he showed them that they were not following godly principles. That is why I am an advocate on reading the Bible on your own and establishing your own personal relationship with God. This way you know what to follow and what not. Like they say, when you hear things, “chew the meat and spit out the bones”.

I think in The Sinner he was supposed to be fresh out of Divinity School. Walton's Mountain was his first church assignment.

I wonder how long they had to go to Divinity School and if they came out with doctorate degrees.
