To my surprise, nobody has mentioned the great event that occurred 795 years ago today---June 15,1215---England's King John, one of the worst of all English monarchs, was forced to sign the MAGNA CHARTA at Runneymeade,England. He died less than a year later, and since that time no future English King has ever taken the name of John----that also goes for the last King Richard(III)who became notorious by killing his two nephews in the Tower of London and King Henry (VIII) who married six times, putting three wives to death and fortunately for the sixth he died before she died.

WORLD BOOK ENCYCLOPEDIA mentions June 15,1215---maybe it was proclaimed the following day?

I saw an original copy of the Magna Carta in Washington,D.C.,many years ago. The Magna Carta was the inspiration for our founding documents such as the Mayflower Compact, the Declaration of Independence, and the Bill of Rights to the Constitution. I love history. Thanks for mentioning this.

I also saw an original copy of the Magna Carta at Lincoln Castle in England a few years ago. The Bishop of Lincoln was one of the signers of the Magna Carta.

The confusion over the actual date may have resulted from the use of different calendars.
