If you haven't read any of her books, I highly suggest you pick up one of her Mitford books. They are a series of wonderful stories that make you laugh, cry and just feel great. Just happens they are based in the Blue Ridge Mountains Ms. Karon is quoted as saying she writes "to give readers an extended family, and to applaud the extraordinary beauty of ordinary lives." Isn't that one of the reasons why we treasure The Waltons? If you're a reader, I believe you will like these books.

Thank You for posting this Livie's Friend. I will have to look into these books. Do you think they are reading that someone my age could handle?

I think you would enjoy them very much! The characters grow throughout the series of books just like The Waltons. There is a Jan Karon Museum built in a converted schoolhouse called The Mitford Museum, She and Earl Hamner share a very similar past which shines through both of their writings.

I was going to get into Shepherd's Abiding , but noticed it was a book in the series that was like the 8th or 9th book in the series.

You could jump in probably anywhere in the series and would enjoy it, but I think starting with the first book and going forward is best.

During a rough time in my life, a friend suggested that I read the Mitford books by Jan Karon. They were very enjoyable, and didn’t see anything objectionable in their content.
