And why?
It can be any character throughout the series and not limited to Waltons family members.
I don't think he had a name, but I would have loved to have known the old man with the wagon who gave Jim-Bob a ride. I could have ridden across the state with him just listening to his stories and soaking up his wisdom.
His role was small, but he gave so much to the episode.
(And does anyone else wonder if he was actually real?)

Sooo many possible answers. I would have loved to have played music with Jason and Red (the Merle version of course). I would have loved to fished with Grandpa (followed by a trip to the Baldwins) and I’d love a hunting trip with John.

I would have liked to have known Grandma and gathered more details on her life growing up and her early days with Grandpa.
I often think about my real grandmothers - the dreams they must have had in their early days.

If I was a little girl again I would have liked to have been friends with Elizabeth and Jim Bob. Would play and go exploring on the mountain.

The character I would have wanted to know is Verdi. Growing up as a girl of color and watching this show Verdi was an inspiration to me. She was a strong woman who although had her limitation she also knew how to stand up on her own two feel and speak out for herself and her beliefs.

^ I always imagined GW as making a great father, modelling himself after both his own father and John Walton.

It’s so hard to choose. I would have loved to have hung out with Grandpa in order to soak up the wisdom. Would have loved to have hung out with Yancy. Believe it or not I thought he was a really cool person who would have told me things about the mountain that others would not have shared. Also, I would have loved to have spent time with John-Boy (Robert Wightman) just to talk to him about his comparison in living on the mountain and living in New York and Paris. My other interest in him is also if he ever came to realize that he was a current activity writer. When I say that I mean I’ve always wondered if he was the type of writer who could write a great book, article, story as long as he was in the midst of the action but not quite as successful when it came down to creating an idea/situation to write about.

I'm almost certain he was the same actor that played the older gentleman who had been a friend and neighbor (along with his wife) to Verdie's parents in the town she was born in. When Jason helps her research her family history. And the episode you mentioned Easton. I always laugh a little when the old man gives JimBob the water in a mason jar. Mistakenly thinking it was moonshine until he tasted it, JimBob says "Back home we call this The Recipe".

I would have loved to have know the entire Waltons family, plus the Baldwin sisters and Ike, Cora Beth. ( yes, even Cora Beth) Aimee Godsey. Of the guest characters it would definitely be Tess and Pip Wrayburn from the Children's Carol. ( yes, I'm a huge Anglophile/ Hibernophile. And a Francophile.

When Jason helps her research her family history. You were right. I used your hint and tracked him down. His real name is Davis Roberts and he actually appeared in 3 episodes and played 3 different characters. His first appearance was in The Theft and played Dewey, the butler. His next appearance was the one you mentioned, The Family Tree, in which he portrayed the neighbour, Frank Nelson. His third appearance was in The Triumph in which he was listed only as 'The Farmer'.
Good eye catching that.
