Hello everyone -- it's hard to accept for some of us, but do you know that 29 years ago tomorrow, June 4, 1981, the very last episode of the Waltons aired? It is an easy date for me to remember because it is my parents' anniversary and I always recall it for some reason. Many of you will probably agree that it's not a particularly good episode by itself. It rehashses an earlier story about the Baldwin sisters inviting friends to a reunion and has a so-so side plot line about JB going to New York. But the fact that it's the last episode makes it a bit more poignant, and I intend to watch it. I would love to hear others' thoughts about this. Crazy how fast 29 years can pass.

I wish I could get over missing the Waltons on tv, but I can't. I didn't care for season 9. The war stories, John Sr leaving, Livy already being gone...it just wasn't a good season for me. I'm so glad I'm able to go back and start with Season 1 when everyone is home and things are normal, so to speak.

Marilyn, I couldn't agree with you more. I have just recently watched the season 9 episodes and you're right, it just doesn't match up to the earlier years. Having different actors play important characters (John Boy, Curt) doesn't help, and neither do some of the silly story lines (Curt not killed at Pearl Harbor? A proposal to Mary Ellen within two days of meeting?). But there is something about that last season that I find parallels real life with a family -- the way things change, the absences, the new faces, the empty spots at tables, history. I can't put my finger on it, but it mimicks my own life experience, the way our family was never the same after some people died and we all grew older. Sorry for the somber note, that's just how I feel. And maybe that's why this date is relevant to me. Have a great day!

Was the last episode 1981? I had just moved from Denver back to North Dakota and we moved to a small town that didn't get many channels. I think the town has 40 people and we got maybe 2 stations. I didn't start to really watch the Waltons diligently until the reruns started on Hallmark.

I was working at a boat yard that built barges and tow boats on the Ohio River. I was a welder. Glad I don't have to do that job anymore. Very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. Still lived at home too back then.

And this coming Wednesday --if you consider it to be three days after D-Day -June 7 was the exam, June 8 was the day the students prepared for the graduation and the 9th was the Graduation day --Jim Bob's Valedictory address.
