The Typewriter.
JB's meltdown. Grandpa going along with the kids in secret. ME willing to give up the money for her super deluxe beauty kit even though she did not intend to get rid of the typewriter. Lots of reasons.

It's so hard to choose and on different days I might give you a different answer but right now I think I'd say "The Sinner."
"Is she that woman who looks like she was weaned on lemons?" 😄
"I imagine the Lord understands about heat, considering he made hell out of it." 😂
Ralph had the best lines in this episode. 😉

The Scholar is my favorite of Season One. I love the interaction between John Boy and Elizabeth and Verdi.

I really liked the acting that John Ritter did in this episode. He went from shouting the gospel preacher that was scaring the kids to a drunk to a compassionate preacher to the congregation all in one episode. That really showed what huge levels of acting he could accomplish. He was really a great actor.

The three i really like are The Sinner, The Reunion, and The Dust Bowl Cousins. The Sinner has a rare conflict between Livvie and John, The Dust Bowl Cousins is especially gritty with the immoral family members staying with the family, and The Reunion has lots of the Baldwin sisters. The scene at Godseys where the Baldwins cut up cousin Homer Lee is hysterical (“Cousin Homer and manual labor have never made each other’s acquaintance!”) And Emily Baldwin is a bit edgier and less ditsy in this episode - she talks about Homer being “delicate,” which he gets from his mother (“She wasn’t a Baldwin, what do you expect?”)

The Boy From the C.C.C.: S1:E8- This is my favorite episode from this season because it shows the kindness of John and Olivia as they are put to the test several times by the young boy who comes to there home. First Gino is none to kind to the family even after they accept him as a total stranger to stay with them and share in meals with them. John even realizes that the boy isn't being completely honest with the family and he still does not turn him away. Then Gino betrays them by attempting to steal from them. John catches him and in typical John Walton fashion he tries to teach the boy a lesson. Gino goes on the attack even then and John is then forced to have to call Ep.
The sub plot of all of this is why this makes it my favorite story though. It involves the relationship between Elizabeth and her dad John and ultimately a test between them when her sick pet raccoon dies. At the burial of the raccoon, Elizabeth loses it on her dad and this is my favorite part of the entire episode. Gino goes into the barn after Elizabeth and tells her a story of him seeing his dad die. During his story which I think is a fantastic interaction between Gino and Elizabeth, the entire family enters the barn and hears what is going on. Elizabeth then says the best line in the entire episode, "I want to see my daddy". John reconsiders turning Gino into the Sheriff and tells him to hide. The story ends with Gino giving the C.C.C. another chance.
There were a lot of lessons learned in that one episode.
