First off: the MUSIC - I read an article tonight on my IPhone where Jon Walmsley wrote about country singer Merle Haggard starring as “Red Turner” in the episode entitled “The Comeback”. Sadly, that is one of the episodes I haven’t seen yet. But the article highlighted the joy Jon had playing with Merle on the show and in-between scenes. I can only imagine the thrill Jon had playing music with one of his musical idols.
Second: DRUNKS - I enjoyed the description of how drunks should be played on film. After reading it, I remembered my Dad played a drunk in one scene with Michael Landon on “Bonanza” and a drunk dealing with withdrawal in a jail cell on “Ironside”. Of course, both times I thought he was quite good because I had seen him, and many of his friends, drink a little too much at several Hollywood parties! Also, I thought it was very interesting that no one in the family on The Walton’s had any trouble with alcohol. You would think with all of “The Recipe” being so available, that the Baldwin Sisters might have over-served SOMEONE on the mountain!!
Third: the 50th ANNIVERSARY - I am so bummed that my friend film critic, Leonard Maltin, no longer works for Entertainment Tonight. He was always the one who pitched his bosses at ET this type of tribute. He has been off the show for so long that he doesn’t know anyone there now. But, maybe all the Forum participants and friends of The Walton’s could send request letters to the entertainment programs like, ET, Access Hollywood and Extra to ask that they celebrate the 50th Anniversary on their show. The only problem is that their target audience is a much younger demographic who would say, “What are The Walton’s?” Perhaps Kelly Clarkson’s or Drew Barrymore’s producers might be interested. I would be happy to send them an inquiry letter. Maybe we could get Richard (when he is in town for his play) Michael and whatever Walton sibling would be available around that time.
I’ll give Leonard a call and also Mike McGreevey to see if they have any thoughts or suggestions to make sure someone will highlight this very special anniversary. What do you guys think?!?!? Maybe we could start a petition…..

Grandpa got quite tipsy a time or two. In particular, he shared a 'Recipe' scene with Reverend Fordwick in 'The Sinner' and a few other times as well, and John Sr. and Ike Godsey had an hilarious scene (along with a sober Jason) in a close encounter with Drucilla's Pond.

I’ve even seen these sort of tributes on network morning shows like The Today Show or Good Morning America. There really aren’t that many of us here on this forum to make much of a difference, but let us know the best person or people to contact, and some of us can perhaps announce it on some of the Facebook groups where there are thousands of Waltons fans.

I often wondered how the Baldwin Sisters weren't alcoholics seeing all the Recipe they drank.

^ I don't think they ever got beyond the 'refreshing' stage. Seeing as they considered it a medicinal cordial, it's unlikely they would drink enough to get drunk, unlike Grandpa, who know exactly what was in the jar and treated it in a most uncordial way.

Just prolonging the “drunk” perspective just a bit more: our daughter, Nikki, is housesitting for someone who has cable and she said she just finished watching Richard Thomas in the last season of “Ozarks” starring Jason Bateman and Laura Linney. He plays the father of Laura’s character and he is a drunk. Nikki said she has never really seen Richard in anything else except “The Waltons” and was very impressed by his acting. Nice to know he is continuing an amazing acting career that didn’t really start - but certainly flourished - on Walton’s Mountain!

One of my favorite Non Walton Richard Thomas roles was in Living Proof: The Hank Williams Jr. Story. He is pretty much fantastic in anything he does, though. If you watch the above movie, keep an eye out for Naomi Judd who has a really small miss it if you blink role
