a ring like ME did?
I would not die on that hill. I never understood why she did it. Most of the time she had to keep it hidden so its not like she could be a big shot and show it off to everyone.
Would you have lied and got in trouble for jewelry?

Nope, but I didn’t grow up poor, and I don’t wear jewelry anyway. I can imagine how getting to wear something fancy would appeal to someone who didn’t have jewelry or beautiful clothes or things like that.

Would you have lied and got in trouble for jewelry? No, but then again to me the character of Mary Ellen was often incomprehensible until Curt appeared on the seen. Curt Williard in my opinion drastically improved the characterization of Mary Ellen all the way around.

Funny thing is she was more tomboy than girly at the time. However, it was something she couldn't afford and was pretty.

She was a tomboy when she was younger, but she also liked getting dressed up, wearing makeup, etc. Remember in “The Actress” when she came down the stairs wearing a gown and make-up (yes, I know she looked hideous). Also, in “The Spoilers” she admired Alicia’s gown, and she allowed Alicia and her mother to dress her up in it and do her hair. So it’s not surprising that she wanted to wear the pretty ring that made her feel special for that one night.

The only thing that really bugs me is ME allowing the young lady climb up the tree to retrieve the ring, and get into trouble . ME could have shinned up that tree like a monkey.
