On the Season 1 DVDs there is an announcer who says: "Now for some scenes from the next episode of 'The Waltons'..."
and then there's the end credits. Does anybody know why they cut out the scenes, but kept in the voice?

In the early episodes of numerous series(Daktari, The Brady Bunch, Little House on the Prairie,Mr Novak)as well as the Waltons they let us know what would be on the following episode. If they knew that it would not be on the following week, they would flash at the end something like(Two weeks from tonight). Later on when TV Guide and other magazines became more and more popular you would be able to tell what would be coming up on the following episode while watching this week's epsisode.

Ah, I see. Thank you! Do you happen to know why they removed all the scenes from the 'next time' segments on the DVDs, but kept the announcer?

I think it might be for nostalgic reasons. the first time i heard it on the dvd's it brought me back to the 70's when i was a kid sitting on the floor watching the waltons and at the end waiting to see next weeks preview.

Previews of the next show would also take up too much space....

Me too! All of us would gather in the family room and at the end of the episode we would applaude! LOL, sounds silly but it's true!
