They never do it on the Walton's or hint at it like the do on LHOP.
I am sure I did, but apparently do not remember it. I think they used Ivory since it was supposed to be pure, but I do not remember the scented soaps. I wonder if CPS would allow soap in mouth in this day and age?

Our punishment for swearing, lying, sassing, is hot sauce on the tongue. It hasn't happened to me in about two years. ( good thing mum can't read my mind) I'm 15, almost 16, I feel I'm too old for all my parent's rules. Mum is much stricter. I'm still " daddy's little girl" he is bit overprotective, but also more lenient and is definitely to go to parent when asking a favour

My dad was a big softie, mum was the disciplinarian. If pushed too far you'd cop it, with whatever she had at hand. Dog lead, horse whip, broom, hairbrush .. you name it, I was hit with it

When I was a kid I got pepper on my tongue when I used a swear word. It didn't happen often.

Soap in the mouth only once. It must have been bad, though. Mom wet a clean wash cloth, soaped it up with bar soak, wrapped it around her finger, and did a thorough cleansing of my tongue.
The go-to punishment tool was a wooden spoon. Only one or two smacks, and never on bare skin. Always on the butt with a pair of pants and underwear between me and the spoon.
That spoon was a good teacher.

Its hard enough being a parent, but I can't imagine it in this day and age we are in. When I was your age I thought mine were strict too but I thank God for them after I realized it protected me from a life of sin and regret. 😁

Once or twice way back. But then I don't think modern bar soaps are nearly as foul tasting as the lye soap that many people made back in the day.

^ Fortunately, my mother never bought 'flavoured' soap.
