Does anybody else also think that Beulah Bondi played a GREAT Martha Corrine? I just love that character, she's my favorite one after all of the immediate family members. She was so believable, and listening to her tell her stories of the past is almost like listening to my own grandmother. I am so happy she won an award for her portrayal!

Yes she was an excellent actress... I also got a real kick out of the old lady that had the goat that she gave to the Walton's. Her name slips my mind right now, but she was always so cute and funny!

Welcome to the forum Mountainlaurel. I am in complete agreement with your comments about Beulah Bondi - she was a fantastic actress who won an Emmy for her performance in the Walton's episode entitled "The Pony Cart." While I liked that performance, I thought her performance in the two-hour episode "The Conflict" was even better for it portrayed the plight of those people who lost their property to the construction of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Bondi also was twice nominated for the Oscar as Best Supporting Actress. Besides playing Martha Corrine, she was best known as Jimmy Stewart's mother in the movies "It's A Wonderful Life," "Mr Smith Goes to Washington," "Vivacious Lady," and one other (I think). "Vivacious Lady" was on TCM starring Ginger Rogers and Jimmy Stewart was on TCM last week.

ssMarilyn; you are thinking of Maude Gormley played by Merie Earle. That character was a hoot! A good job of acting by Ms Earle.

Yes! Maude Gormley! She was so darned cute...I just loved the sound of her voice and the expressions on her face, especially when she told John Boy that she didn't have aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaany money to pay her bill at Ike's store. Do you know when she died and at what age?

Merie Earle died at the age of 95 on Nov. 4, 1984. Part of her fame was from commercials she did for Dodge automobiles back in the '60s - she was "the little old lady from Pasadena."

I just signed up to this forum. It is really great! I have been a long-time fan of the Waltons and watch an episode at least once a week. It really made me happy when they came out with the DVDs. The "Waltons" were always good at casting some really great actors. Beulah Bondi was one of those. My favorite on the Waltons was Ike Godsey (Joe Conley). He was so real. However, I must say that all of the "Waltons" were fantastic. I remember when Will Geer died. I felt like I had lost a family member. Too bad that there isn't something comparable on TV today. I look forward to checking in frequently on this forum.

Welcome Razorback! Everyone that comes here seems to be a diehard Walton's fan, so you'll be in good company. I watch one episode a night, sometimes two when I'm really restless. They help relax me. Hard to believe Merie Earl has been gone 26 years! Uffda....

Welcome,Razorback. I remember watching Merie Earle on shows including "Green Acres",on which she played Sara the telephone operator. She also appeared on an episode of "Bewitched" and I believe was on "Love,American Style" as well. The IMDB should have all her work listed.
Welcome, mountainlaurel. Beulah Bondi was without a doubt one of the best in the business. "The Waltons" had top-notch talent.

Thanks to all for the welcome! I do enjoy watching the DVDs. I now have all the seasons. My next purchase will be Joe Conley's newly released book, "Ike Godsey of Walton's Mountain". "Ike" was defintely my favorite character on the show. I am an "Old" guy and have never been a "Star-Chaser". However, I would really enjoy my wife and I having dinner with Joe Conley. My favorite seasons of the Waltons was the first 4 or 5, before the kids grew up. The show seemed to be grasping at straws in the later seasons. But Ike Godsey stayed the same. I hope to travel to southern California soon, and when I do, I plan on visiting the Warner Bros lot and take the tour that has the Waltons set on it. I hope it is still there. There is not a character portrayed on that show that I didn't like. I was always fascinated by Will Geer. He and Ellen Corby were perfect for their roles.

You're right Razor, Ike was always there, he never changed. To me, he was one of the biggest stars of the show.
