Hallelujah! For all of you who were waiting with bated breath - I finally spoke to Michael McGreevey. Good news and bad news to share:
The good news is Mike told me he will be appearing at John and Olivia‘s Bed and Breakfast from November 5th-8th this year sharing his experiences on the show and discussing the making of the DVD “Earl Hamner: Storyteller.“ What a great treat for all the fans!
The bad news Mike shared is that, due to legal complications, sadly, the DVD is not for sale any more. “Miss Emily, Miss Mamie, please bring me some of ‘The Recipe!! The vapors are upon me!“ DRAT! That explains why all of you who have searched so hard everywhere for a copy had no luck. I agree with Mike that the DVD would have had a perfect home on the Inspire Network, where they show Walton reruns, but there didn’t seem to be much interest.
They shopped the DVD to all the cable and network platforms, but for whatever reasons the “powers that be” decided it wasn’t for them. I can’t imagine why, after such a successful run on network TV and now a new movie to celebrate the 50th anniversary, people weren’t interested, but as they say, “That’s Show Biz!”
Fingers crossed that, perhaps someday, the DVD may appear on You Tube or some other free presentation and we can all celebrate Earl’s genius!

That's odd. I would have thought that Michael would have known all of the legal hoops and channels that he would have to jump through to get the rights to make the video.
When Judy Norton began making her 'Behind the Scenes' videos on YouTube ( posted here in the Video sub-forum), she included clips about the episode she was discussing. They all suddenly disappeared one day and we discovered that she was ordered to take them down as she hadn't acquired the rights to use them. She had to edit the videos and repost them without the clips. It wasn't long before the clips were back so it's clear that the rights had been obtained.
I imagine that Michael has tried to do the same and failed.

^ I've found bits and pieces of it but I didn't know if it would be worth posting them.

To answer some questions in response to my DVD post: The legal problems that developed were not issues with the studio. It is rather complicated and Mike was only one of 3 producers. Mike made the DVD as a favor to Earl and he said Earl was very happy with the final result.
Of course, Mike would have wanted more Walton fans to see it, but he felt he fulfilled his promise to Earl and he was content with that. The initial distribution included copies to The Walton Museum and John and Olivia’s BnB and they sold out. The 15 minute segment on You Tube was put on there by Ray Castro, who was one of the three producers.
Mike did tell me that the famous scene with my Mom reading the Bible in “The Firestorm” was in the DVD and that made me happy. I haven’t even seen the DVD but Mike was going to search and said maybe he might find an extra one for me to view. I hope I’ll get the chance to do that. As I have already mentioned, many times, Earl was so kind and talented, I am just glad that Mike was able to create such a special tribute to him.
