Ike doesn't appear to have any family on the mountain. In the episode Foundes Day it sounds like one of his relatives opened the store. Forgive me, its been a while since I saw it.
Also we never see him date until CoraBeth.
It just seems like he must have been lonely.

That's why he asked Corabeth to marry him. He was lonely and so was she. Ike explained his loneliness to John when John questioned him about his feelings for Corabeth and wondering if Ike was rushing into things.
The whole thing reminded me of Tevye and Golde in Fiddler on the Roof. Love came after the marriage for both couples.

I don't suppose there were too many single ladies in his age bracket on the mountain.

I don't suppose there were too many single ladies in his age bracket on the mountain. Agreed. For a woman to be single, they have to have a way to make a living or had an inheritance. Miss Hunter would have been available and younger than Ike. The hermit lady would have been single as well. I think its assumed her professor father left money for her. Hmm, who else was there?

Ike was a catch. The only man on Walton's Mountain who was doing okay financially during the Great Depression. But he was a bachelor long enough that he could only hook up with spinsters or widows. (Not many divorcees in those days)

Was Flossie in his egg basket though?

I think Flossie was too old for Ike. There was Sarah Jane Simmons’ mother, but I can’t imagine Ike being married to her. Corabeth was perfect for him. Ike was lonely. Corabeth was lonely. They needed each other.

There are a lot of men that need a mommy to tell them what to do. I don't think that was Ike. He puts up with a lot from Corabeth. And even after all the years they are together, he still seems to irk her. But I think we have all met couples like that in our lives, which is what makes it feel real. Corabeth always reminded me of my bus driver when I was a kid. Same sort of holier than thou attitude. Lead the church choir and everything. But her husband was a farmer who we hardly ever saw he was always busy with the farm...

Though some may benefit from tactful nudging. As we may recall, Corabeth behaved very differently during their courtship. Corabeth reminds me of Dr. Smith on Lost in Space. Jonathan Harris played an entirely different character in the pilot and first few episodes, but fans hated his character, and rightly so. Like The Grinch, Smith was "a mean one". He knew he would never make it to the end of the season so he began reinventing his character into a camp coward. Harris rewrote scripts and set up scenes with Billy Mummy, then somehow managed to convince the producers and directors to record them. The fans were not disappointed and, next to Will Robinson, Dr. Smith became the most popular character on the programme.
I think something similar happened to Corabeth. Whether it was the producers who encouraged the change or Ronnie herself who reinvented Corabeth, was irrelevant. Corabeth became the regular character that everybody loved to hate.
