Carolyn, yes you are very blessed to be able to one-on-one with some of the most cherished television characters of all time.
kelvin - I can't imagine a meal without chatter! Oh yes, CHATTER and lots of it. Mealtime is fun time and family time. It's the only time of the day that everyone gets together at the same time and the same place, and all have opportunity to share their day. Our table is mighty quiet with just two now. I prefer the ruckus.

My family we had to be home for dinner at 6:00 pm every night the TV was off no matter what was on. (we did watch the moon landing) we would say grace and you had to ask to be excused when done eating and you took your plate into the kitchen. But we did get to talk.

Tonyray I think your mealtimes were in the right spirit. I seem to recallThe Waltons 'asking' to be excused when they had finished.

We had to be home for 'supper' before the whistle blew at 6pm and when it started to blow and we were still playing somewhere with buds, we raced home as fast as we could and usually beat the whistle. This was after we moved to town from the farm.
