Hello Everyone,
I recently read a post where someone was asking about the meals being served during the taping of a Walton episode. I don't remember what post it was in so decided to start a new thread.
Michael Learned called me today and I asked her about the food being served during mealtime at a taping. She said the food was very good at the beginning of the taping but after about 150 tapings for the episode it began to get "nasty." All the crew and everyone was always invited to take part in eating.
Michael sends her love to everyone. At this time, Friday afternoon - 5:30pm Michael is taping her first episode on General Hospital. Look for her on April 16th.
Lynn Hamilton (Verdie Foster) also said the food that was served during a taping was alway delicious in the beginning.
David Harper just called me so I decided to ask him about the food. He too said it was good and hot in the beginning, but after awhile it was COLD! He is such a sweetheart! But a very private person.
Warm Walton Wishes to Everyone,
Carolyn Grinnell

Carolyn,
I asked about the food in the Eric Scott thread. I just have wondered about it since watching the shows on dvd. It always looked good. Thanks for the information.

I loved the way they all sat around the table together, laughing and talking and eating at the same time. I noticed that very seldom did anyone actually put the food in their mouth though. I came from a family of six kids and we did pretty much the same thing, with Dad at the head of the table and Mom to his right. I miss that. Now it's just hubby and I....our six kids are all grown and gone. If we didn't have five dogs here to look after, I think I would be bouncing off the walls. Big families are a real blessing!

I agree completely,ssMarilyn. Large families are a blessing. I am number four of five children. When I was a child, our table was like the Walton table. Now it gets even more interesting when in-laws and grandchildren (my nieces and nephews) all visit at the same time.

I ahve to agree with everyone, meal time back then was a family mealtime, no sit in front of the TV/Video/DVD and no one saying anything. I think parnets learned so much more about their kids around the table than at any other time

I watched an episode last night where everyone at the table was eating the food. They all looked hungry and the food looked good!

Carolyn, I was just thinking how lucky you are to talk to the cast of The Waltons. I was wondering how you know them all? Also, do you have an address for David Harper? Thank you

I was wondering the same thing...how a person gets on their call list... That's good!

It is indeed an honor to be able to talk to the cast members. I met most of them at the grand opening of the Walton's Mountain Museum in Schuyler, Virginia in October of 1992. I do have David Harper's mailing address. I will be happy to forward mail to him for you if you're interested. Carolyn

Hi Marilyn, As president of The Walton's Int'l Fan Club, the cast members gave me their telephone number and addresses years ago. Over the years I've forwarded mail to them and we talk occasionally. I do indeed consider myself very lucky. Carolyn

I was just wondering if anyone agrees with me. Thsoe parents who insist on 'quiet' mealtimes lose out on so much. Thsoe who allow chatter from their children learn so much more abotu them. Or I have i got it all wrong

It is always better that there are discussions at the table but certain subjects should be off limits. Some people have violated these rules and I have stopped going to their parties as a result. Friendly hospitable conversation is always the best.

Hi to try and illustrate what I meant by childrens chatter. Secnario 1.
Oliva, at sink. ben enteres she doesnt turn round. "Had a good day at school?" Ben: "Went, had lunch and came home." Oliva: "Okay.·"
Senario 2 the one we know and love so well.
The family at the table. Mary Ellen: "When Jimmy threw that paper at melisa and missed." John Boy: "And he was hauled out front to reel off the names of all out States" Jason: "Then when he can only do 39 ben says 'Huh'" John Boy: "So Ben gets asked to name them." Oliva, very quietly: "Did you son?" Ben: "Yes Momma got them all nailed down." John Walton: "Well Done ben."
From that Oliva and John learned an awful lot I think about their childrens day at school
