Thank you, Easton, for the info on Don Knotts and Andy Griffith on “The Gettysburg Address”. I watched it on You Tube and they were both so great! Imagining it was all ad-lib is astounding! Andy Griffith was underrated as an actor, I thought. I loved him on Matlock! I watch it often on my kitchen TV while cleaning or cooking. The other day was such fun, because I saw an old rerun of Matlock and my next door neighbor was on it. He looked like a kid! I live next door to Grant Heslov, who was an actor for many years. Now, he is the producing and writing partner of George Clooney, who lives 3 blocks away. I think Grant moved here so he and George could work on scripts and projects like their Academy Award-winning movie, “Argo”. Their commute would be less than 2 minutes! But, then George got married and, except for the pandemic, George lives with Amal and their kids in a glorious estate in England. But, he still has his Studio City mansion and it always makes my heart skip a beat when I see him driving around our neighborhood! He truly is drop dead gorgeous!!
George use to tool around the neighborhood on his motorcycle (with a German style helmet showing his whole face) for many years. But then, while riding, with Grant in Italy, he was in a very serious accident. Amal evidently convinced him, as the father of 2 little ones, his motorcycle riding days were over! He agreed.
Jeanette Nolan was all set to become Andy’s co-star on “Matlock” playing his mother. However, Jen told me Andy decided, after she was signed, he didn’t want anyone else added to the cast. I think he just didn’t want someone of Jen’s caliber taking away any of the “star power”. But, that is just my opinion based on the way the whole thing was handled. I mean, who wouldn’t want someone of Jeanette Nolan’s talent on their show?!? Anyway, it was great to see Julie Sommers (the red-headed DA) on Matlock for years. She starred with my Mom on the series the “Governor and JJ” which only lasted 2 years. Again, as you pointed out, Easton, I probably have the “6 degrees “ connection to lots of terrific actors - and many of those can be traced back to so many talented guest stars in The Waltons!

I had to Google Grant Heslov and I didn't recognise him until I read his IMDb page ( www.imdb.com/name/nm0381416/#actor) and saw 'Columbo' in the 'Actor' section (linked above) and remembered him from that. He was a busy, busy boy in all the categories there.
I don't know which of the porch scenes were improvised. I just remember Andy talking about having to fill time on occasion. By the way, did you notice how reminiscent the Gettysburg Address scene on the porch was to the Preamble of the Constitution scene in the Sheriff's Office?
The things Don could do with his hair!

I love catching George Clooney on a Roseanne episode re-run! I never recognize celebrities when I'm out and about. And if I'm driving down the road, I don't even recognize/see my own friends, lol!

I don't know if I've ever heard Andy's Gettysburg address. But I really liked the one where he was telling Opie about Romeo and Juliet in order to explain about 2 feuding mountain families.

I also just watched the Gettysburg Address skit on the CBS special on YT. I do hear a lot of similarity of the lines they used for the Preable to the Constitution skit, which leads me to believe this was improvised in the way comedians perform their stage acts. They already have an idea of what they're going to say, but the final delivery is embellished to suit their performance. I suspect they were asked to perform those skits on more than one occasion.

And here is the Gettysburg Address. (I couldn't find a video of the original, but here is a recreation of it. The hairy arm is a dead give away. )
