It is VERY frustrating to me that I don’t follow-up on some questions asked of me by those on the Forum. I get distracted trying to stay up to date and read everyone’s posts. Then I will come across a question while reading other posts and I’ll forget there is something I need to answer. I apologize for not responding quickly.
I think PatriciaAnne asked what my daughter did when she returned from her adventure in South Dakota. Sadly, Nikki and her girlfriend Grace were driving back to LA and in North Dakota an old lady with bad eyesight pulled right in front of them while Nikki was going the speed limit on the road - around 70 mph. Nikki, was able to avoid a head on collision and I was told by the Highway Patrol that if she hadn’t turned just that small amount, both girls would have died on impact. Thank God, she only broke her foot and sustained an injury to her leg while Grace only had a seatbelt burn. God was truly watching over them. But we made the mistake of not hiring a lawyer for this out of state case and poor Nikki got very little compensation for medical bills and no loss of wages money. I still feel guilty every time I see those ads for the lawyers who promise they get no money if you don’t get money. Now, we tell everyone- HIRE A LAWYER!
It was a horrible experience, but to make a bit of money while she was laid up, Nikki wrote articles as a “stringer” for the N.Y. Daily Post. She wrote a wonderfully touching article for the Post about the accident and her love for her car that she named “Meathead.” (long story) We have it framed in our living room and I still cry every time I read it.
But after a year of acupuncture and physical therapy, she was well enough to go back to work. She got the job she still has today. She writes the news for the LA radio station, KFI, as a Senior News Editor. She received her Masters Degree from the prestigious Columbia School of Journalism. We were very proud in 2019 when she was chosen as 1 of only 6 people given “The Outstanding Journalist Award” by the Professional Journalists Society of Southern California.
I know my folks, especially my Mom, would have been so proud. Even Earl would have been happy for her. We were driving to the celebration dinner, when Mark Wallengren, a DJ for KOST, radio announced on-air about Nikki’s award. KFI and KOST are sister stations. Mark said he had known her since birth and what a smart, talented, amazing woman she had become. What parent wouldn’t want to hear that?!? Nikki didn’t know Mark and I had arranged the shoutout and she was very surprised and thrilled. Mark is the son of Claire Whitaker, screenwriter and producer of The Waltons for many years and, as I have mentioned before, she and her husband Rod Peterson, wrote “The Fire Storm”.
Isn’t it amazing how so many lives intercept? I will try to be more punctual with my replies. But, as I have also mentioned, I do not have Nikki’s award-winning editing skills. I thank all the participants on the Forum for their patience and understanding. Maybe Flossieskid’s Corner should come with the warning: “ It is suggested, prior to reading, one ingest copious amounts of coffee or chocolate in order to take advantage of the caffeine found in both so you might stay awake while reading the follow…….” Something to think about!

Just to let you know that it is not expected for all questions to be answered in a forum such as this. That would be unreasonable. If it is important to the asker, they will ask again.
Don't worry yourself about it, and please, apologies are certainly not necessary.

Oh Tracey, I agree with Easton! Please don't feel pressure to answer any of our questions. We do appreciate everything you do write and enjoy every word! We all get busy and sometimes I'm not on for weeks at a time, myself. I start a new contract assignment next week and I'll probably be scarce for awhile.
Thank God your daughter and her friend weren't more seriously injured! It sounds like what seemed like a terrible misfortune at the time has led Nikki to a wonderful career. I bet that Earl would have been very proud of her, as well as your parents, of course. 💗
It truly is amazing how intertwined our lives are!!
