Hello everyone,my name is Debbie and I live in London. I grew up watching The Waltons more years ago then I care to think about and I still love it now. One thing I have wondered for a while is this, what are the age gaps between all the children? I think there are ten years between Jason and Elizabeth but I don't really know about the other children. Thank you and this forum is great.

I wasn't sure how you want it in real life age or character's age.
According to Homecoming season.
John Boy- 15 years old Jason- 14 years old Mary Ellen 13 years old Erin- 11 years old Ben- 10 years old Jim Bob - 7 years old Elizabeth-4 years old

What would the ages in season 1 because in the Dust Bowl Cousins Job asked Jason how old Mary Ellen was and he said 13 in The Carnival John Boy says he 17 They said that Jason is 15 years old in Season 1 The Legend and Dust Bowl Cousins. In season 9 "The Pledge" Jason is 24 years old. MaryEllen 14 years old in "The Awakening" season 2 16 years old in "The Job" season 3 Timeline is so screwed up and make all of us confusion.

I wonder why they messed with the ages like that...it's not like the actual stars were going to age that much on the set. I also watched Reckless magically turn from male to female!

I watched the Walton movies recently and one was set in 1970 and Elizabeth was probably in her late 20's which is odd considering that she was a little girl in world war 2. I wish I could age as slowly as that! I don't remember Reckless having a change of Gender, now that is funny perhaps they thought the viewers wouldn't notice.

I think the characters ages would represent most large families and look just about right.

I come from a large family and the age range between the oldest and the youngest is almost 14 years. And yes,it is odd about the gender change Reckless underwent,LOL. Like somebody else said, I guess they thought nobody would notice. I read something interesting, even though Lassie was shown as a female on the "Lassie" TV series, all the dogs that portrayed Lassie through the years were male.

I thought in the episode where Mary Ellen in going to nursing school when they are talking about her going off to school didn't Ben say well I'm next. I remember in the Early season they call Reckless by here boy. and then Reckless has puppies Jim Bob was going to sell them and she only has one. Maybe they had more then one dog and just used the same name like they did with Chance.

I think if Reckless would have expired early in the movie, they would have had a show about it, like they did Chance. I think they just figured nobody would notice. It's not that big a deal - they sure do look alike, litter mates maybe. Just for fun though, it would be nice to know why they switched.
Yes, I read too that Lassie was a male!

I do notice these things when I'm watching ~ to me they make no difference! These are supposed to be one man's recollections away. Later in the series when Jim Bob finds out he had a twin, we learn that all the children except for him had been born at home. Season 2 there is a episode when Olivia is pregnant, she and John are talking that Erin was the prettiest newborn of all ~ Olivia, remembers that the nurses at the hospital said she was the prettiest of all the babies there. Clearly, there are discrepencies, I could care less. To me, it seems silly to discuss such things but most comments here are simply knit picky ( high heels being worn, Olivia's false eyelashes).

Rhonda...we're just having fun talking about the Waltons. If we can't discuss different things, then what's the point of even being here on this board. If we have to worry about what we say, thinking someone might think it's being picky, alot of people will hesitate to bring anything up. I was getting really relaxed here, but if I have to weigh everything I comment on, then the fun is gone. Now if someone was here trashing the Waltons, that would be completely different and would offend all true Waltons fans. But as far as talking about all the different aspects of the show, I say bring it on everyone...it's all in fun!
And I know that you are referring to me - ( high heels being worn, Olivia's false eyelashes). Well just deal with it. We're having fun.
