About 3 months after my Mom (Flossie Brimmer) died, for some odd reason, she seemed to appear on almost every TV show she ever did like The Twilight Zone, Charlie’s Angels, Wagon Train, Starsky and Hutch, Emergency - too many to list. Many times, I had our TV on and our 4 year old daughter, Nikki, would see her “Nana” on all these shows. My Mom had a very recognizable voice and when she would appear, Nikki would go up to the TV and knock on the glass saying, “Nana, Nana, can you come out and play with me?” It broke my heart. I succeeded in not breaking into racking sobs! But one day, after seeing her grandma so many times in the months after my Mom’s death, she saw her one more time on TV and turned to me and, with all the conviction a 4 year old could muster, said, “Mommy, Nana didn’t die. She just went to go live in the television!” I couldn’t hold back the tears! So, I have always felt very blessed. Because of all the reruns of The Waltons, Nikki could see her Nana anytime she wanted and I was also able to give our son, Ryan, a virtual grandma, since he was born after her death. I think it is so incredible that, because of the wonder of reruns, we are all able to see the many amazing actors from The Waltons who “...went to go live in the television!”

I haven't really thought about that very much. To me, she was a character on the screen. To you, she was your mother. To Nikki and Ryan, she was Nana.
I suppose what I am trying to say is that, as actors, it's difficult to see them as real people like us with real lives and real families.
Wonderful story and very touching.
