What would be a typical breakfast in the 30s and 40s?. Growing up in the 60s I had things like porridge, weetabix or cornflakes. We only had a cooked breakfast (bacon, eggs etc.) on Sunday.

Do we ever see them eat commercial cereals? I do not remember a box of this or that on the table or the counter.
Honestly, I think I would eat the same oats as the critters did as it would be handy. Bought in bulk they would be more cost effective.

I did some Googling and didn't come up with anything conclusive except that it was regional and depended upon whether you were rural or urban. I would imagine the Waltons ate a different breakfast than families who lived in Richmond or even Charlottesville where processed breakfast foods were more readily available. Corn Flakes would have been around for over 30 years but it's doubtful that Ike would have had them available in his store. Cream of wheat (wheat semolina) also would have been around for over 30 years both oatmeal and semolina may have been available at Ike's.
Bisquick was also available in the 30s (Bisquick is a baking mix consisting of lard, flour, baking powder, and salt, suitable for making biscuits like the burnt ones that Martha Corrine served to John-Boy, pancakes, waffles, etc.) but that, too, was probably available only in more urban centres. The Waltons would undoubtedly have made them from scratch.

If we're talking about what the Walton family might eat. They did have biscuits & sausage. Remember the spicy sausage Martha Corrine made one morning with Olivia & Grandma present. John-boy ate the sausage patty between two biscuit halves and had that for his breakfast. They also ate oatmeal (porridge), pancakes, sausage gravy, eggs, fresh milk, coffee..I don't recall any fruit. They also had porridge made from ground corn (cornmeal mush, grits).

The title of this thread sounds like one of the 1990s reunion moves.
A Walton Breakfast (1998). Richard Thomas, Ralph Waite, Michael Learned. The cast from the 1972-81 series reunites again, as the family struggles to make it home for 40th anniversary brunch for John and Olivia and worry about the various dishes they’re responsible for. Janet (Kate McNeil) juggles her newborn twins and trying to make a hash brown casserole; lactose-intolerant Jim Bob worries about Grandma using milk in the pancake mix; Mary Ellen refuses to make a dish, feeling that she shouldn’t have to just because she’s a woman; Olivia secretly buys a quiche at Godsey’s and passes it off as her own.

Lol, hilarious! I'd watch it, sounds riveting.

Grandpa slips a little of The Recipe in Grandma's pancake batter when she turns her back to heat the stove.

Some of the food mentioned here sounds delicious. What about sweets? I can't recall pastries or other desserts at the Walton's breakfast table. I would've asked for Esther's homemade cinnamon donuts with a cup of coffee. What a nice way to start the day!

We know they made sausage, had smoked hams, fresh eggs. Biscuits were probably on the menu. A relative of mine posted a picture of the sausage, eggs, sausage gravy and biscuits on Facebook. Her daughter had made it for her. It made me think of this thread.
