He was fair but firm. If someone got out of line he would make they got back in line. He never instantly went to spanking one of his children, he always wanted to talk it out first
He was a hard working man who always made time for his kids and Olivia
Even if they didnt see eye to eye he tried to se from her point of view

Yep and I think there used to be more like him in the days gone by.

He never instantly went to spanking one of his children, he always wanted to talk it out first He didn't spank anyone but he certainly yanked poor Eric Scott off his feet after Ben 'borrowed' John-Boy's car and some joy riders smashed the fender in.

I believe Eric has said he was genuinely afraid of Ralph in that moment. He really does manhandle him. 😯

^ That's probably why Eric's pit stains looked so real.

I also love how after the sheriff left, John said to Ben something along the lines of, All right we are alone now, you better tell the truth.
That happened a few time in the series. Even though the Waltons were law abiding and Epp was a friend, the family circled the wagons and protected themselves from the long arm of the law.
Family first!!

I also liked how grampa jumped in when John grabbed Ben. It was Zeb's way of checking John and preventing him from doing something he would regret later.

I always liked him. In some way, I think he was a better tv dad than Michael Landon.

I think the Walton kids were really respectful and that was because of John Sr. and Olivia. Yep I remember watching the episode with Ben and John Boys car getting the fender bent up. Ben was in a really hard place in that episode. Would he tell why he took the girl into the town and what happened or keep it quiet and deal with everything? That is a tough decision.

I agree with you - the more I watch, the more I see how he was such a good guy at his core. He played the role so well.
