Schuyler is an easy drive south from Charlottesville (an interesting and pretty town) on US 29 (four lane) and then east on State 6 (about 6 miles) to hwy 800 which takes you into Schulyler (about 2 miles). There are signs along the way. There is another way on a county road (off 29 about 7-8 miles north of Lovingston, but is easy to miss) that parallels the Rockfish River that takes you through the "town" of Rockfish. This route is a good way back to US 29. A hurricane destroyed most of Rockfish a good number of years ago. Allow alot of time for driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway; it is a two land, hilly, curvey road with beautiful scenery (Fall is a great time to be on the Parkway). Traffic moves at about 40-45 mph. The Parkway, the Shenandoah Park and the Shenandoah Valley are beautiful and the area has many historic sites. Have a safe and enjoyable trip!

For sure we'll have to spend a night somewhere at the park. We'll be RVing it, the only way to travel. I can't wait to see the fall beauty. Autumn is my favorite time of year. I'll be printing out your advice and directions. Thank YOU!

My sister lives in Charlottesville. I love traveling on US 29 between Lynchburg and Charlottesville. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous any time of year but even more so in the autumn. Have a great trip.

Hi, I have been in Virginia last year. We traveld from Atlanta to Charlottesville, we drove on the Blue Ridge Parkway for two days and we visited the Waltons Mountain Museum in Schuyler. If you are interested in my travel report and the photos of this trip have a look on my website www.rockfish-river.com. Dagmar

Autumn is my favorite time of year and that's why I insisted we go then. I'll have to contact people in that area and see when the colors are at their peak so we're there at the right time.
