The Godsey's had this radio & record changer console. I cannot make out what kind it is. Does anyone have an idea what radio they had?

I've adjusted the shadows on these two pictures. Thanks for posting Zadok thanks joe-zeb, I also posted this question & your brighter images on the Antique Radio Forum under Godsey's Radio Console and see if someone there recognizes this console or even the company that made it..From the close up image, it appears the company logo on the dial cover has about 6 letters.

The knowledgeable folks on the Antque Radio Forums have kindly assisted in indentifying Godsey's console radio & record changer.. It is a 1946 Zenith 12H090. and as noted with the Walton's Zenith tombstone radio, was manufactured in a later year than portrayed on the TV series. (images reference - radiomuseum.org)

Zadok I like your keeper of Zadoks fiddle. We have my grandfathers fiddle ,my aunt had it,and her son tore it up,we had to have worked on,after it was fixed ,a woman in my church who plays the violin played it during a church service. My grandfather had a car and his nephew had the violin, so they traded.I heard a story that my great grandfather had a violin and Henry Ford wanted to buy it because it was a very expensive violin, don't know what ever became of that violin.

Thank you Sharon, one of Dad (Rome's) favorites that he played and taught me was Rosin the Beau. To give you a feel for how we play the melody on fiddle, here is a good version. .
i wonder did your grandpa play his as a fiddle or a violin? (just for our reader's clarification, a violin is played in classical style using written music in standard notation, a fiddle is the same instrument but played in traditional folk styles with songs taught by ear)..

Hmmm -- just occurred to me.... Was the title "Rosin the Beau" actually "Resin the Bow" -- after all, we're talking about the violin !!!

Yes when i first heard the title, I thought they misspelled it with the same reasoning you suggest. But after hearing the lyrics, I realized they were making a play on words, with Rosin as name of a fellow and Beau referring to a lover or boyfriend. Wikipedia explains: Early versions of "Old Rosin the Beau" relate the story of a man who was popular in his youth, then in late life, the ladies refer to him as "Old Rosin, the beau", as he prepares for the grave

Back, circa 1960, one of my relatives had an (old) television set with a record player built into it. So, I could believe a radio having one as a component.

Very good on your relative's console TV & record player. Our relatives gave us a 1946 Magnavox console, with radio receiver (AM, SW) and record changer (78s only) and it had a space for a brand new technology of the time, FM

Wasn't really a console, just a medium sized television set. I just noted that the TV controls had a switch that read TV / PHONO. I opened the back of the cabinet (where the vacuum tubes lived), and there was a turntable. Or maybe just a bay to hold one ... I don't remember any more. I guess the idea was to use the TV speaker so that you could listen to records when there were no broadcasts. Of course, early TV speakers were very rudimentary, so the very idea must should be enough to make modern audiophiles cringe.
One of my grandmothers had a unit with both a radio and a phonograph built in ... but it was so old that it only played 78 rpm records! She had a small collection of those. Those discs spun so fast that a movie soundtrack album required four records.

I just remembered that, fairly early on (maybe mid 50's) we had an old record player (only 78's) in our basement rec room -- then my dad somehow jacked-in a very small turntable for 45's but both my older sister and I had record players in our bedrooms that played all three speeds.... the console that included a full stereo didn't appear on the scene until about 1965.
Now, I have to Google and learn when it was that 33-1/3 "long-play" arrived on the record scene.... and, for that matter, when 45's came into being.
