After we bowed our heads tonight in prayer over dinner my mind somehow wondered to generations before me doing the same at mealtime and then I thought of the Waltons all gathered round their table at mealtime giving thanks to God and I wondered what their prayers were like. I recall quite a few episodes of them saying grace before eating. Is there a place someone maybe has wrote these down? If not, I may just take on a new project of writing down their prayers as I watch each episode out of curiosity and just for fun.

I thought it was funny when Grandpa occasionally said A-women instead of A-men. It only happened occasionally - a feminist before his time!

I hope you will post them here.

I'd love to see the Walton prayers written out too. I wish I could make up prayers like the Walton's (or actually the script writers) did. I was raised Catholic and we were taught a Grace to say before meals which we said in school every day before lunch and in my home before dinner and we were taught "Rote prayers" like The Our Father, Hail Mary, Act Of Contrition and numerous others that are written in numerous Catholic prayer books. I've always felt that we were not really taught how to pray just told what to say.

I loved the scenes where the Waltons prayed. Their faith was one of the things that attracted me to the show as a viewer. We take turns praying in our family before meals, and we hold hands together, too.

I cannot remember the episode but I remember when Grandpa said grace and went on and on until John said Amen!
