Posted on Facebook by Scott Hamner:
Anyone wishing to send a letter or card to the family may do so at the address below. My mother (who does not have a Facebook account) would find this especially comforting. Thanks!

Many of you have written some wonderful things...the posts deserve more than one "like" One day a couple of years ago (on facebook) I received a friend request...and it was from Earl Hamner. I was shocked and surprised. I sent him a message thanking him for the Walton;s, etc...and he said "thank you". It was nice he replied back. He was a very talented writer, many of you may not know but he also wrote 8 episodes for the twilight zone back in the 1960s. I have seen them all. We lost a great talent!

It is indeed a sad time for Earl's many fans.
I have posted my thoughts and reflections about Earl on my blog and Facebook.
Whilst I was looking for some photos of this great, humble man yesterday I came across an article he had written for the Blue Ridge Chronicles back in Fall of 2000. He ends with the following:
"Life continues to be an adventure. Each day's a gift!"
What a wonderful philosophy! He went on to have almost 16 more years worth of daily gifts, and I suspect enjoyed many adventures over those years.
Earl Hamner has touched each of us in very different ways and we all have our special memories of him. Thankfully we have his body of work to remind us of the values he wanted to share with us and through his wonderful introductions and conclusions and many videos online, we can still visit with him when we choose to and hear that distinctive voice again.
I urge each of you to remember Earl's words of wisdom as we continue our own paths through life. Enjoy the adventures that life offers you and accept each day as the gift it is.
Little did I know back in 1996 when I looked around for websites about The Waltons and found absolutely nothing that my life was about to change. A whole new world opened up for me and Earl Hamner and The Waltons were at the heart of it.
Earl Hamner, thank you for your support, and for reminding us of the things that are important in life. Who would have thought during the original run of The Waltons that some 40+ years on, a large family of Waltons fans, spread over many countries of the world, would come together to share their love for this humble, most genuine man from Schuyler. He has left a legacy to be very proud of.

Goodnight Earl.

I am waiting for his family to tell us where we can send donations in his honor. I am sure there are many charities that Earl loved. Someone on Facebook mentioned that he loved trees and they were going to plant a tree in his honor. That is very special. I know how much he cared for animals (just read his book Avocado Drive Zoo!). Perhaps a donation to your local SPCA, Humane Society or dog rescue would be good? Or to the Walton Community Center and museum. A scholarship in his honor would be nice too but I will see what his family wishes and go from there. Posted by Scott Hamner on Facebook. 14 mins · Studio City, CA · I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support offered to the Hamner family. As pleased as you may imagine Dad would be by the kindness and warm regard you have shown him and to the Hamner family, Dad would be even more pleased than that! Honestly, we are humbled and overwhelmed (in a good way) and it eases our hearts just a little bit... We have been asked about a memorial or service and all I can tell you at this time is that Dad was emphatically opposed to the idea. He even made my mother promise him not to even consider the idea! So, we are respecting his wishes, but at the same time trying to imagine a way to remember him that he would like. (I.e., we all meet at the James River in Virgina and go fishing and drink a lot of Jack Daniels.) In the meantime, if you feel you need to do something to honor him, you will find below a list of organizations that Dad supported. A charitable gift in his memory would make him proud. Thank you again for you sharing your prayers, pictures, rembrances, etc. If I didn't love him so much, I would say it is too much (but it isnt!). I was hoping to comment to Scott, if possible. Has anyone seen/heard/read from Richard Thomas? It seems surprising to not have some statement from him, but he may be busy traveling, working, etc. Definitely not a finger-poke, but I would think he would acknowledge Earl's death in some way.

Hmm...I didn't know it would embed the entire post. I thought it would just be a link. Anyway, click on the embedded post and it should take you to Earl's Facebook page. If the post doesn't show up, just keep scrolling down the page. It's there somewhere.

I think 3 of his siblings are still living. Two of his sisters, Audrey and Nancy, I know for sure are still living. I think he also still has a brother left, but I don't remember which one.
