So John Boy fought for his newspaper tooth and nail. He even sold John Boy's Meadow to make payments on the printing press. So did he just waltz off to New York and forget about the whole thing?

Bigger fish to fry? He always thought New York was all that and a little more. I guess that was his goal all along.

The last we see of the press is Jason and Ben taking the press apart and oiling it.
Did anyone else notice that JB's boss in NY is the same boss he had at the newspaper job in town? I thought that, that boss was going to Florida?

Must have stopped off in New York on his way to Florida and like John Boy it "called " to him. Me, give me small town Walton's Mountain every time. Now that "calls" to me!

I always thought the same thing~he worked so hard to get the press and then to leave it behind just when the paper was going strong.

Every time that episode with Daisy comes around (where he asks her to marry him), I keep saying, "No, no, get married and stay on Walton's Mountain!!!" But it never changes the outcome.

I hated that he married Janet!
I wanted him to marry Daisy, work freelance and go on assignments when he was needed to do so. That said, the Big Smoke was what he always wanted and worked towards but JB was always only ever about his career - which is why he treated his girlfriends as time-fillers until he was ready to leave the mountain and go work. I guess he wanted more than the life his father led.

With the way he wrote about the mountain, describing the seasons in all their splendor and how the birds sounded calling to their mates, etc, I was surprised that he would sell the meadow that was given to him by his grandfather. That seemed to go against his appreciation for the splendor of the mountain and all of the nature that abounded there. I've often wondered why he chose to go to New York also.

When people move on to new adventures, they often do not look back. Earl himself ended up in CA, which is a LONG way from Virginia.

He also didn't finish up at Boatwright college. Guess John Boy just wanted to try new things..lots of changes. By the end of the show you couldn't even recognize John Boy anymore, he became Robert Wightman.
