Loretta gets married at ,like, age 13 to the Tommy Lee Jones character.

I recall hearing in an interview a long time ago that Loretta Lynn handpicked Sissy Spacek to portray her in the movie. I wondered if perhaps she had seen Sissy playing Sarah on the Walton's.

One of my favorite movies... and YES - they were most definitely poor.
The only thing that really bothered me about their life, as portrayed in the movie, was the night in the hotel after they married. She was just a girl... he should have been more patient and gentle. She knew absolutely nothing.
