So sorry to hear that Brenda. I do hope others didn't have the same fate. My old office mate didn't ever water hers and it died too! I still have the original plant.

Mine did not survive either. I brought it home carefully on the airplane, but it was not very happy with that trip. To be fair, Cinlou, I have killed two cactuses this year. On a brighter not, three have survived. LOL

This Alabamian brought home four of your little white cups with a cactus piece in each. I am happy to report that three of them have survived. Thank you for sharing them.

Good to hear yours survived Mrs. Forever! I have a lovely Christmas cactus that I got at Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania. Longwood is that famous gardens of the DuPonts. Right now it is outside in the heat and humidity (not the sun) and doing well. I always think of The Homecoming when I look at it. How do you care for yours? Any secrets to make it bloom? I usually put mine in the cool, dark basement for a while to start a bloom cycle. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. Do you feed your?

I was given one at a reunion but because of such strict immigration in Australia I left it here. I would never be allowed to take it into Australia. What I have always wondered though is when a Christmas Cactus would flower down there? Does it flower only when it's cold? We might have to rename it! LOL

What about ordering some seeds and planting them down there? As long as you have a warm, dry place out of the sun it should grow well. I used African Violet soil with rocks at the bottom for good drainage.

LOL What Kazk didn't tell you is that she left her cactus in my care. It lived for several years, but it never did bloom. Unfortunately, it died this year also, about the same time as the one I got from Cindy. I'm probably the wrong person to leave a cactus with.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner! I rarely water my plant and I just leave it alone. I used to have it at work and watered it more but the business closed down so I brought it home. I think it is more humid in my house therefore don't have to water it as much.

I related on some other thread recently that my niece's Christmas Cactus only bloomed after she totally neglected it for over a year -- it was on a windowsill behind a curtain, and she totally forgot about it.... no water, no care at all -- and, lo and behold -- it finally bloomed when it was about six years old !!!

I have a lovely one that I got at Longwood Gardens (the DuPont Estate) a few years ago. I put it outside in the summer and it does very well. It is in my sunroom now but I need to bring it in as the nights are getting cold. "Who wants to see something pretty? My Christmas cactus. I just stuck it down the basement in the fall and now would you look!" - Olivia

Walton Friends, I had to scroll back to page 8 to find this Thread, But in it I mentioned that we had ordered a 'Yellow Christmas Cactus' from an online Nursery. It is a Fairly large size, it was planted in a 9 inch Hanging Basket & was covered in Blooms when it arrived. It came from Ohio by Fex Ex 2 day delivery, & the blooms were so large, we just decided to go ahead & let it bloom. It is covered now in Large Yellow Blooms. I had never seen a yellow 1, Most you see are the Pink 1's. But it is beautiful. If any of you are in search of a 'Christmas cactus' I would reccomend this 1. The blooms are a 'Vivid Yellow' with just a little White & Pink in the Tip end.. The basket is completly full with the Plant & The Stems are a good 9 inches long. Thank You. Best Regards, Jerry I'm so glad you told us about this, Jerry ! -- Yellow is probably my favorite color, and you've enticed me into ordering one ... never thought of a Christmas Cactus in a hanging basket, but that would be perfect in the middle of my living windows.... it will be my Christmas present to myself.
Again, THANK YOU
