I was watching the Jeffersons last night, and the housekeeper Florence said something very kind, thoughtful and wise about George, which, for her character, was unheard of. Weezy said to her " I can't believe you said that". Florence replied, " I watch the Waltons!" Later in the episode, Weezy tells George what Florence said. George asked, " what? She said that? What happened to her?" . Weezy replied, " she watches the Waltons!" lol...it felt nice to hear them mention our show

The Waltons is a cultural staple. Whether people watch it or like it, or not, almost everybody knows what the cultural reference is. "Goodnight, John-Boy," is ubiquitous. I find most people who don't watch the show always know " goodnight John Boy " and " goodnight Mary Ellen". They usually know " Goodnight Elizabeth" and " goodnight Jim bob". They never know Jason, Erin, and Ben. I find people always refer to "mamma" as " ma", and " daddy" as "pa" This is just what I've observed

I think on The Waltons that John was always "Daddy"..... and on Little House, Charles was always "Pa"..... so, you can always tell when someone hasn't been a frequent watcher of either program !!
