As my son's birthday draws near and I finish up last minute things for his surprise birthday party (nothing extravagant) I find myself wondering what it must have been like growing up during the Great Depression. I don't recall seeing any shows where there were any birthday parties. I could be wrong of course, just none come to mind as of this moment Just curious what a birthday would look like for one of the Walton children. Would it be a surprise celebration? Would Mama make one of her delicious homemade cakes? Would they have that child's favorite meal? What do yall think?! Please share We see one birthday each for Grandpa and Grandma. Both Grandpa and Grandma's birthdays are said to be in the spring, but no specific dates are given. John's birthday is never celebrated, to my recollection. Olivia's birthday is celebrated in "The Air Mail Man." Her birthday appears to be in the summer (the children aren't in school). Maybe July or August? John-Boy's birthday is never celebrated. But his gemstone on his ring can be seen. It's a shade of red. If it's his birthstone, that means his birthday is in either January or July. In "The Conscience," Olivia talks about how it was cold the night that Jason was born, implying that his birthday is probably in the winter. Maybe January or February? Mary Ellen says her birthstone is the diamond, meaning her birthday is in April. Nothing is said about Erin's birthday. Jim Bob's birthday goes back and forth between January 13 and June 13. Elizabeth's birthday is celebrated in "The Changeling." No date is specified, but it's in the fall (school is in session, leaves are on the ground, the family is drinking apple cider, etc.) Given the Halloween theme of the episode, I've always assumed her birthday is in October. Cindy's birthday is April 26th.

Oh yes now you've refreshed my memory! I do remember that episode now especially when John Boy gives the flowers to Mary Ellen and Erin's special gift For some reason I just didn't recall that it was Grandma's birthday! Not sure about the other episode with Elizabeth. I always skip that episode. Stuff like that just creeps me out! Grandma's birthday is season 2's "The Awakening." Elizabeth's birthday is season 7's infamous Halloween-themed episode "The Changeling."
