The road leading to the Walton place is unapaved, as it is to the school, the church and past Ike's store, and several homesteads. Likewise, the main street of Rockfish is unpaved, in front of Ep's office, at least in earlier seasons.
Yet, the road is paved in front of Mrs Brimmer's boarding house, the Baldwins (though it might have been unpaved in earlier seasons), and in front of the rich people's house where John was accused of stealing when he fixed their refrigerator. I think it was also paved in front of the house Ben and his buddies were caught in, which I think was supposed to be in Rockfish.
Mrs Brimmer's house and the Baldwin's is within walking distance of Ike's store. Similarly, John was going to walk home from the house where he fixed the fridge. Are these places supposed to be in Walton's Mtn or Rockfish?
I think I once heard that the train station in Rockfish was supposed to be six miles from the Walton home. Could that have been at the far end of Rockfish, with the paved places mentioned in the last paragraph be on the nearer side?
But it seems odd that the road in front of Ep's office would be unpaved, but the road in front of Flossie Brimmer's is paved - and that any home in Walton's Mountain would be paved, when Ike's store and the church are not.
Or are all the discrepancies of what's paved and what's not something viewers are not supposed to notice?
I know that Westham is supposed to be 28 miles away and I imagine Charlottesville is supposed to be somewhere near Westham. The Dew Drop is supposed to be on Route 29, which I imagine is on the way to Westham.
We really need a map of where everything is! Does anyone know if one exists?

I thought of doing this, but was only going to map the house to the store. If you notice when the kids go to the store, they walk across the road to the store and sometimes they walk along the road to the store.

yeah, I mentioned that before. I thought that was wild. I wondered how close that was to everything else. there are episodes where Grandma is walking by, so it's in walking distance, But "walking distance " was different back then.
These days "walking distance" is ,like, 100 yards. Back then it was nothing to walk a couple of miles 1 way.
Was Curt's office on the same street as Flossie's house ?

I swear I see Flossie's house and Curts house when I watch Adam 12 and Emergency.

I swear I see Flossie's house and Curts house when I watch Adam 12 and Emergency. Yes, you probably do. All those houses are right there together on Midwest Street at Warner Bros.

I'm guessing the road in Rockfish where Ep's office was no doubt was used as a set for Old West towns, which would necessarily not be paved.
I once heard that they used the same back roads for the Andy Griffith show and for Hogan's Heroes and that there's one scene on Hogan's Heroes, where Andy's patrol car is visible. Ooops!
As far as the dirt roads around the Walton house, Ike's etc, go, one would think they'd have put gravel down on their own property at least and the roads would have been oiled to keep down dust in good weather. And I can imagine the quagmire those roads must have been when they had several days of heavy rain in a row!.

I'd give anything to tour the backlots on the Warner Bros studios...
Anyway, I'd love to see a map of everything, although that would most likely be a difficult task to accomplish.

As Eclectic mentions... I really don't think we were suppose to pay that close of attention to these details. If they expected the viewers to FORGET that Ben and Cindy had 2 children (or not to question what exactly happened to Virginia) They certainly didn't expect us to pay attention to proximities of these buildings to the Walton home.

The real Rockfish is a few miles down the road. The post office is so tiny and cute. There is a dam and a railroad trestle. "At night I can hear the train cross the Rockfish trestle." - John-Boy
