I'm pretty much in agreement with you Buttercup and I'll add Grandpa to this conversation we've talked about many times before but always fun to rehash WmFan

My three favorite characters would be Jason, Mary Ellen, and John Sr. Jason is so easy to like. He's easygoing, patient, and optimistic. Also a very good musician. Mary Ellen is a favorite for me because she and I are so alike. She was a tomboy as a child and grew to be a nurse. I was very much a tomboy as a kid and I'm now in college studying nursing. John is my other favorite. He was such a wonderful dad. Always there for his kids. I like all the Waltons, but these three stand out as my favorites.

My favorite character is Grandpa. Will Geer was such a natural for the role. After that my favorite characters would be John Boy or John Walton. I'd say Verdie would be next after that.

I don't know that I could ever pick a favorite. I love them all. I do have a special fondness for Grandma. I think it's because she often says what others are thinking but don't have the nerve to say.

My favorite character is John-Boy. My second favorite is Elizabeth. Buttercup, I like your avatar! And I really love the words to the Spinning Wheel song. I just love that song. I still remember Olivia singing it.

Wow, SO MANY! Of the kids, Jason is my favorite. He's such a sweetheart and by far, THE NICEST one of the seven kids. Of the adults, Grandpa is my favorite but John is a close second. I also like Olivia. Even Grandma who is a little "rough around the edges." Of the girls, Mary Ellen is my favorite because she and I are so alike. I was a tomboy just like her. I'm not in college studying to be a nurse, which was her occupation. I have many favorites, but Jason, John, Grandpa, and Mary Ellen are my absolute faves.

Actually my favorite character was Martha Corrine Walton in The Conflict and The Pony Cart. Beulah Bondi was such a fantastic actor and portrayed a perfect character

I like Ben the most and Elizabeth the least.
Outside the family my fave character has to be Verdie - she always makes such an impact in any episode she is in.

From time to time, I like when these Message Board 101 type questions get bumped up. Thank you, nicci. My favorite Walton is Jim-Bob. He's the "out there" Walton who remains a free-spirit from beginning to end. You never quite figure out Jim-Bob. Like Ben, he has a short fuse but, unlike Ben, his first impulse is to runaway rather than confront yet, he never does runaway. Jim-Bob can be clever and resourceful when the spirit moves him however, rarely does the spirit move him and you never know what direction that spirit will lead him. Unlike the other Walton boys, he is not worried about following in John Walton's footsteps. He's mamma's boy and worships his little sister Elizabeth but, would probably hit you over the head with a wrench if you mentioned those facts. Unlike John Boy and Jason, Jim-Bob's mind isn't satisfied with abstract thoughts of Moby Dick and Mozart, he does not dream of floating in the air, he wants to build a machine that will take him there. Earl Hamner/John Boy sums him up well in Founder's Day when he voices over Jim-Bob and says, "Some of us stumble but, never actually fall". My favorite character not named Walton is Sheriff Ep Bridges. The late John Crawford was one of those "face" actors I remember well from shows like Hogan's Heroes and Star Trek. He always did his work well. The best character actors are like the best baseball umpires: when they do their job well; you don't even notice them. Ep was easily John's best role. Usually small town sheriffs are portrayed dim-witted career crooked types with their hands out looking for a bribe or tough as nails ex-drill sergeant meanies. Ep is exactly the kind of guy I would expect to find in a place like Jefferson County, Virginia. No doubt, he's tough as nails when he has to be but, is sensitive and experienced enough to know that Walton's Mountain is a "beat" that requires a steady hand more than a quick trigger.
