"Grandma Comes Home" is on INSP right now - one of my favorite episodes. It makes me sad, though, knowing that it is Will Geer's last episode.

Wow I didn't realize that this episode was Will's last. I do love this episode though, especially when Jim Bob and Grandma go off for a drive, they are both so happy. Also interesting is that there was really not another sub-plots, except for Elizabeth and her involvement with her 4-H project, Jatbez and the boy that owned him. Normally there was sub-plots with a few of the children or adults. Chris

I was so happy to be able see that last night. Hubby rarely turns The Waltons on, but last night he was going to bed early and turned to INSP before he left the room, and there was that ep. A great parting shot of Grandpa.

It probably should have been the last episode of the series.

It probably should have been the last episode of the series. I don't agree. I enjoyed many of the episodes in the later seasons, especially watching the family as they went through WW2. Time for "The Empty Nest" now, the episode where the cast paid tribute to Will Geer.

I so agree with you, Brenda. In addition, having the show continue on as it did allowed and continues to allow us fans to see the wonderful and natural rapport as exhibited by Ralph and Michael.

And we would never have met Cindy. She is one of my favorite characters on the show.

There is a scene in Grandma Comes Home thatis kind of funny, its when Ben replaces John Curtis in his carriage with Jabez the pig. Also if they ended the show in the season this episode was on,it wouldn't have been the same,we wouldn't have Cindy, and there were some pretty episodes during the rest of the shows run.

I'm sitting here on this fine morning having coffee before I start the day and just happened to turn on the TV. The Rifleman is on and sitting there in the scene is none other than Ellen Corby, playing a cranky old women. She must have loved those roles!

Hi everyone, I thought some of the episodes in the eighth season, for example, the season finale "The Valediction," were quite strong. However, the quality dropped quantitatively in the ninth season. I still enjoyed it, but not as much, especially when the producers resurrected Curt. That was such a disappointment after the fine poignant script of "Day of Infamy" in season seven, but I must say, the ploy paid off. "The Tempest" was among the top 20 ratings for the week it aired.
