Mariclare Costello, (who played the school teacher Rosemary Hunter Fordwick) on The Waltons husband - Allan Arbus has passed away. He died Friday April 19th at their home in Los Angeles. He was 95 years old. One of his roles was playing the psychiatrist, Sidney Freedman, on M*A*S*H. At the Waltons reunion back in September, I told Mariclare that I was hoping that her husband was going to be there with her & I asked her to please tell him that I enjoyed his role on M*A*S*H & say "Hi" for me. She seemed pleasantly surprised that someone at a Waltons reunion would remember her husband. I hope she passed my message along to him. They had been married since 7/24/1977. May she be comforted with her memories of their life together. tv.msn.com/tv/article.aspx?news=804007Here is a picture of the two of them taken in 2007: www.imdb.com/media/rm2721294848/nm0182582If this needs to be posted elsewhere, then please do Brenda. I thought since it was Mariclaire's husband that it would be alright to post it on the General Board.

That is a sizable age difference. I guess age doesn't matter where love is concerned. Did they have children?

My condolences to Mariclaire Costello. Michelle, those are great pictures. I wanted to meet her at the reunion, but I didn't get to. Was her husband with her at either event?

Thank you, Brenda. I'm just thrilled that I was able to get these photos after having been a long-time fan of hers. No, unfortunately Allan wasn't there. I knew Mariclare was scheduled to come for the weekend, but it was really kind of neat, because, while I was helping to hand out the hotel parking vouchers to the guest stars at the dinner, I suddenly turned around and there she was, as she had apparently just arrived at the dinner. She and I began to talk and it was there and then that she said he couldn't come for either event.

Aaaaahhhh, I love him in MASH. One of my favorites. MASH is probably my favorite TV show, followed by The Waltons

As michellet posted, Allan wasn't at either event. I wonder if it was because of his age, health, just didn't want to come or an entirely different reason. I was hoping he would come so I could meet him & get his autograph. I was also lucky like michellet, I got to meet & talk to Mariclare at both events.

RIP Sidney Allan Arbus. I didn't realize he was already in his mid 50s when MASH started. I remember his famous line he said twice in the series. Take your pants down and slide on the ice. Sorry for Miss Hunter Maiclaire Costello's loss. WmFan

With Mariclare they had a daughter, Arin, who is a stage director. Diane Arbus had an extraordinary career of her own -- as a world-renowned photographer. I remember being quite sad when I learned they had divorced.... thought they were a good team. And then to learn of her suicide a few years later. They were a big part of the New York scene back then....

WmFan I remember he said it in the last episode Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice - pull down your pants and slide on the ice.
