Eric Scott posted this clip on his Facebook page. It's from the CBS 50th Anniversary special that aired in March 1978 All the Waltons are in it. This was probably their last appearance together as Will Geer died a few weeks later in April.

Thank you so much for posting this, Carol! What great memories this clip brought back. All the Walton's looked so great, especially Grandma! I enjoyed it so much that I went to YouTube and did a search to see if they had anything else on the 50th anniversary. Well, I found the "Part 2" to your video. This clip shows all the stars being introduced, including all the Walton's, by the day of the week their show appeared.

So many big names in this clip. It's a shame so many of them are no longer with us. I wonder why they didn't have Ralph Waite come out with the rest of the cast?

1978.... 50 years.... at first I thought, WHAT? No way.... but then I realized they weren't celebrating 50 years in television -- but were including radio and movies.... Now, I have to go read the history of Columbia Broadcasting !!

I also thought it was odd that Ralph came out alone. But, then I realized they were doing all the stars from each day of the week in alphabetical order. The Walton's ended up coming out as: Corby, Geer, Learned, then the Walton children, each in ABC order. Ralph, being a "W," was near the end of the Thursday group. (I thought this method took away from the continuity since stars from each show did not appear together.)

I think Richard Thomas came out just before Ralph Waite, didn't he? So Ralph really didn't come out alone.
Just watching that brought back so many memories of so many talented actors and actresses and great TV shows. In my opinion, there is nothing on TV today that can come close to the quality that those talented people gave us. So many of them are gone now. Some of them have passed away in the last year or so. Then there was Valerie Harper. So sad to think of her condition. I guess we can be thankful for cable TV and DVDs (totally unheard of in 1978), so we can continue to watch these great TV shows.

You are absolutely right, Brenda. I totally missed Richard Thomas and didn't realize he wasn't grouped with the "children" when they were introduced. These clips are both worth watching over again to see what you might have missed the first time around as it all moves so rapidly. What a wonderful era in TV this was, the likes of which we will probably never see again.

I wandered why Ralph was standing near the beginning when they were all standing on the balcony because the kids and Michael were together? I also have this clip of the opening to Thursday. Is it just me or can your hear Michael sing more than the others. I dunno she stands out more to me. Anyone else?

I saw these two videos a few weeks ago. When the Walton kids came out & Richard Thomas (John Boy) wasn't with them, I thought what is it about him that he doesn't do anything with the Waltons outside of the show??? But then he came out by himself like Ralph Waite (John Sr.) did. Now ILoveTheWaltons has posted the above great video. But now I'm wondering why Jon Walmsley (Jason), Eric Scott (Ben), Judy Norton (Mary Ellen) & David Harper (Jim Bob) weren't in the truck with the rest of them? ? Maybe later on in the special they had them in a skit. I grew up in the seventies with all of these wonderful shows & stars. It spoke highly of their love of acting for that many to come together & do this 50th Anniversary Show. The stars used to do wonderful movies & shows with lots of big names starring in them together.......some examples - 12 Angry Men, The Dirty Dozen, How the West was Won, Cool Hand Luke, It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World. Nowadays the majority of the stars are just concerned about the millions they can get for the movie instead of their "craft." They don't want to share the spotlight with an ensemble of other big name stars plus the studios couldn't afford what all of them would want in salary. The only time you get a lot of stars together in today's world is at all of the different award shows.

Wow that was neat to see and just the CBS shows right? Anyway there were other shows like Dallas, the White Shadow, Murphy Brown and others that hadn't even started then. I guess thery're past 75 years now so we'll have to wait for the 100 year show or whenever. Great clip and thanks for sharing and RIP to all those who are gone. The Waltons MASH All in the Family, Bob Newhart Carol Burnett. Mary Tyler Moore. No network had it better than CBS in the 1970s. WmFanSportwriter

I really enjoyed watching the clips of CBS 50 Anniverary.I think I watched it back in 1978,it was good to see everybody, and like someone wrote in this forum, that most of them are dead.CBS is 85 years old this year,I wish they could another special like they did in 1978,or show the 1978 special again.I know watched NBC and ABC anniversary specials when they came on,but I can't remember CBS Anniversary special.I wish they would put on those type of shows again.
