Good ideas Brenda and you are the leader here. But maybe some way if there was a board like say groups of people that run an apartment or condominium complex. A group of people who have been here a long time who have some type of say in ideas that go on around here. But its the forum you run so its your final call on things. Just a thought. WmFan That's not a bad idea, wmfan, but I don't feel comfortable choosing who would be in the group. I've already been accused of having "favorites" on the forum. I think I would rather just get some ideas from anyone who wants to post in this thread, then make a final decision myself. Just a thought Brenda, but you're right about the favorites and trying to run it online might be different or difficult. You do a great job running and starting this forum whatever you dd, and keep it up. That's a job and love in itself. So Louisville is the NCAA Champs and on to the next games or whatever interests you all. Take care and Good night WmFan

Having a board to run things is a very difficult thing to get balanced. we lived in spain where most homes are in a 'community' governed by an administrator, secretary and president. it's far from ideal and causes a lot of discontent. most things here get sorted out right, and most of the folk who come and post are fine. the forum is well run and I thin is okay as it is.
just my thought on keepers. I have one and don't post that often, mainly because I feel there are those here who have so much more 'experience' and knowledge than I do, so I enjoy reading their thoughts. perhaps I'm not the only one to do this?

But you do post Kelvin. Totally different then those that post a few times, ASK for a keeper and then vanish.
That is the part that I do not get. Why go so far as to ask for a keeper and then not be part of the group.

I agree with most of what has been said.... except for the idea of some kind of "board".... we'd end up with the proverbial camel designed by a committee. Brenda does an excellent job of including the members by asking our opinions.... and coming up with good answers or compromises. And, if anyone objects strenuously to something, he/she can always PM her and perhaps get a better understanding (even compassion!)....
I am definitely all for making signature images or keepers smaller so they don't take up so much space on the screen and so that less scrolling is required (shoulder problems!).... and I think some amount of involvement in the forum should be displayed before requesting or receiving a keeper....

I think 1 keeper is all you should be able have. I have other forums that I go on to and some really go over board with all the signature you can have. Others won't allow you to have a signature until you make a certain number of posts. I think you shouldn't be able to have a keeper until you make author.

Hi I'm very new to the group (yesterday). I will hold off on posting my keeper choice until you all have voted and worked out a decision. I am very excited though so please keep this updated with your final decision. No plans on leaving anytime soon, as I said before, I love it here. Enjoy your day, Shelly

I like the idea of having a number of certain "posts" before you get to have a keeper. I also agree with JeriJet that Brenda does a wonderful job as forum administrator & she has always been great about keeping us all in the loop & we all know that we can PM her about anything.
I couldn't "like" JeriJet's post because since this morning, every time I click on the "like" button, it immediately puts me back on the top of the page & does not register the "like."

What was the definition or original purpose of the Keeper concept? I tried to search for something, but evidently not in the right place. I assume we're all interested in KEEPING the Waltons memory alive, yes? I have been on the Forum for a while, post regularly, and have never had one, or felt the need for same. I do enjoy looking at them though, and hate to see restrictions imposed on folks who might consider being a Keeper their contribution to keeping the memory alive. Some folks might be intimidated by having to write something, but still enjoy passive participation by reading the posts of others. Thus, I don't think numbers of posts should be implemented.
I think the Forum Administrator does an outstanding job. I've seen what happens when committees try to run things Long live the benevolent monarch!

I think that it would be a good idea to have to be a participating member for a month before being a keeper. I think that if you have a keeper and say after a month (or we can have a poll to decide an appropriate amount of time) you haven't posted or been seen here you should get a PM or email warning from Brenda that you will lose your keeper if you don't return within a few days. If no response then your keeper goes up for adoption. If you know you will be away from the forum for an extended period of time you can post here or send Brenda a PM letting her know and your keeper will be safe. I don't mind more than one signature as long as they aren't overwhelming and take over the entire message screen. I lean towards agreement on this... but the only problem I (personally) have is that sometimes I'm away from home (or any computer) for up to 3 or 4 weeks at a time. So I wouldn't receive an email warning until I got back - by which I might have lost my keeper. I don't always know in advance when I'm going to be A.W.O.L so I might not be able to let anyone know. When I first came to this forum I did introduce myself, and I frequently read many of the threads but don't make a comment as I often don't feel confident enough. I have replied on some of the threads though. I'm not suggesting I have special treatment - I just wanted to "put my case across"

A suggestion was made about not becoming a keeper until someone "makes author." Being new, I don't know how many posts that is and think it would be good to know since we are discussing the "possibility" of requiring certain post numbers before becoming a keeper. I noticed I just jumped from novice to reporter this week at about 25 posts but don't know for certain where it goes from there. Perhaps someone could list the progression from novice on up for those of us who may not know? Thanks so much! Brenda, I think you do an utterly outstanding job of running this forum! Kudos to you!

You become an author after 100 posts. I am leaning towards requiring a person to post an introductory post before having a keeper. The person should also at least log into the forum regularly for awhile, even if he/she doesn't post anything. Some people like to read others' comments, but they might be shy and reluctant to post anything themselves. We would hope that they would eventually start posting, however. Otherwise, no one would get to see their lovely keeper banner.

I love my keeper but please don't think I drink the recipe....daily Just kidding! I actually wanted this keeper because I love the Baldwin sisters and you can't live in the Appalachian Mountains and not know about the recipe I have a Walton banner too and I won't mind if it's removed. I don't know that I can remember how to do it so if Brenda will do it for me.
