I'd have to cut Elizabeth. She was a spoiled little "hey somebody, look at me" kind of kid. Jim Bob is my absolute favorite. In fact, he's the reason I plan on going to Lynchburg this fall. He was the most interesting and well rounded of the whole brood. Loved that aviator hat; that is typical kid garb! Not to mention his skills as a mechanic, radio enthusiast, potential aviator, skillful survivalist and general curiosity with how things worked and making something from nothing. Yet, you never see him coming and never ceases to amaze you. I grew up about 40 miles from Rockfish and still live in the southwest VA area. ( the bear pictured is from a trail cam 10 miles from my home ). Jim Bob reminds me alot of my "middle" son. Wonderful to have a fella supporting Jim-Bob -- usually it's a female member's "crush" (many female members...) You said everything I've always felt but somehow never expressed very well. If you are attending the reunion, you should bring your middle son !!! See if you can keep the gals away from him

An actor or actress not appearing in a show. Well that happens all the time. different story, not there for some other reason that's not what I meant. I'm just saying if you didn't like or agree with a certain actor or actress who would you think of cutting or letting go. Obviously David Harper Jim Bob worked out so it was the right decision for a successful series. I liked him some, but he just wasn't my favorite character and was a little different from the rest of the Walton's. But he was a good actor and fit into the show. That's why he stayed a part of he show like the others. I hope I explained myself as well. WmFan You explained yourself well, WmFan.... but I'm not sure you understood what River was saying.... I believe she was simply adding another slant, another dimension.... bringing up an interesting point not yet considered in this thread.... No problem Jeri Jet I understand what River is saying her opinions and all is.great. We should tell newcomers like Shelley that we don't always agree, but our love of the show is never ending!

Note to Brenda -- Once again, after the quote from me, wmfan's remarks have followed my posting instead of plainly indicating a quote with a response.... I think this happens when someone doesn't see the very faint line after the quote, and so doesn't get his/her remarks in the right place.... Can this line be made darker or somehow more obvious ??
THANKS!

THANKS! I don't know if the line can be made darker or not. I'll have to look into that and see. Later: Okay, I made a dark blue border around quotes. Everyone should be able to see it now. Hope this helps.

I can't imagine cutting out anybody...that would make me sad. Although she was an integral part of the show I think Mary Ellen's character was my least favorite...at least during the early years of the series. Something about her whining, loud voice would get on my nerves a bit. But of course it wouldn't be the same without her! Jim Bob was one of my favorites too...maybe because I have little brother Jim that was born in 1970. We all called him Jim Bob since he grew up as our family was watching the Waltons. That's the biggest reason I'd love to come to Carolyn's reunion this year because I so enjoyed meeting David Harper at last year's reunion. It's not looking likely I'll be able to come this time with all I have going on this year but you never know....staying hopeful at least.

Let me clarify...I could not cut anyone because at different times, each child is my favorite. I may not have liked Ben as a kid, but I like the grown Ben...which we could not have had unless we had met him as a kid. His character grew and that is what I like about the writing. They grew each character. Perhaps Erin did not grow as much as some of the others(not my opinion but opinions from others), from typical middle child with no special talents except being the pretty one, to a confident woman that helped run a factory. Very competent! I, as the viewer, also have grown and can now appreciate each character. Now that I have met each character and saw what they became, I could not cut one. In fact, when someone is missing from an episode, I have to wonder where they are. What would that character add to the plot if they had been in the storyline. It would be easy to cut a character we had never met.

Each child was my favorite at different times in the series, and depending on the episode. I can't imagine The Waltons without any one of them.

Looking back, I'm glad they didn't cut anybody either and the Waltons are a wonderful series. But it is really fun to see your responses and hear your feelings on this and it is a topic to talk about. And I appreciate and respect all your answers. Besides Jim Bob I have heard Elizabeth, Erin,Mary Ellen, Ben and others mentioned as those who weren't your favorite characters once in awhile, but like any family we love, we can't imagine being without them and this was a tv show, not real life well it was created on Earl Hamner's life but you know what I mean. Thanks again so much for your great responses. I love thinking of good fun challenging topics to talk about here. Talk soon WmFan Sportwriter

Such a hard choice to make because I love all of the characters and can't imagine the show without them. The only one who really irritates me, even in the renuion movies, is Elizabeth. I don't know what it is about her but I find her so annoying. I was so frustrated with her in a Walton Easter that she could come home after flitting around the world and expect Drew to be waiting for her. She made it seem like it was all his fault that he had moved on with his life and hadnt waited for her. I think he should have just told her 'tough luck' you missed out and I now have a new life and love. She was always a bit of a spoilt brat!

And it was so sweet how Jim-Bob and Elizabeth held hands all the time in Season 1. Would love to be able to go to a reunion. You lucky people who do!

I don't know I couldn't cut anyone, although Elizabeth was a "pita" when she was about 12-14, with the spy stuff and twisting things she heard. Couldn't stand her in the "Rumor".
