I have to say that since Jason donned the army uniform his character has certainly changed...he just does not suit the role of barking out orders. Jason was the quiet sensitive one in the family and I wonder if he could have been portrayed better and more interestingly as a conscientious objector to the war...or would that have been a difficult task for the writers as they'd have needed to find things for him to do around home while his brothers were off doing the war thing. He's also a little too smarmy with Toni at times and it just doesn't seem like Jason as he was.

Oh, gosh, I loved the army Jason.... was glad that the series rounded out his personality -- it was good to see another side of the character, and it pointed out one reality of war.... that many different types of GI's are possible and can do the job....
As a child, I knew a close friend of my uncle had been a conscientious objector during WWII. It damaged his life tremendously and I often wondered how he would have fared had he come to Jason's decision and gone ahead to do the job.... FYI, didn't like him much but not sure how much his decision colored my opinion.

Well there was an episode, I think it was Homefront, where he had to make himself be tough on the men he was training. It was against his nature, but he had got stuck with the clumsy platoon. But John told him that he was doing these guys a favor and maybe saving their lives in the long run. One of them, Ted Lipinsky became a good friend to him. I never thought he was smarmy with Toni. She was not an easy girl to get to know at first.

BTW, wmfan's note somehow tacked onto my posting -- I wonder why that happens sometimes ??

BTW, wmfan's note somehow tacked onto my posting -- I wonder why that happens sometimes ?? I fixed it (I think). Just a little coding issue.

I remember the episode at the end of the war when Jason and his platoon were staking out the Germans and he had to be a tough leader. but Jason adapted and did very well. WmFan
