Does anyone know if the mill was real. I mean were the saws real or just props? When they show wood being cut was it really being cut or was the wood all props? How about the splitting of the fire wood? Loading the truck, real wood or plastic props?
Anyone have any idea......Eric?
Thanks, Chris

when I went to the museum, the lady there said that it was a SMALL PASTIME in his barn and was not really a business...I do not know what to believe from her because I have since found out that she did not care for Earl's father, and did not always give out accurate info. She seemed like a "crabby" lady to me and did NOT want to answer my qestions she grew up w earl and went to his house often she said

I think Flyaway means the sawmill used on the Walton's set. You could see that they were actually cutting wood. I suppose a real carpenter could have instructed the men on how to do that properly to make it look realistic.

I was wondering that too. It must be a glitch.

Hey everyone- The Saw Mill actually worked. When Daddy was milling the wood, they did it with real wood and reattached the bark with a balsam type material so the blade would go through very smoothly. All of the other wood cuts were usually real and yes... the lifting of the wood was real! We did have alot of shavings that we would put on us but they didn't stay on like as if we were in an actual working environment. Hope that answers that!!!!Take care, Eric

How has this posting appeared three times I have deleted 2 of them. I'm not sure why it happened, but that's what happened to me on Sunday when I was posting from my phone. If I tried to modify a post to correct a spelling or something, it would post the message again.

Thank you for posting, Eric. It always helps to get that first hand information from someone in the cast who was actually there. I wonder if fans of other TV shows are so lucky!

Were any of the cast hurt shooting scenes? I know from having a wood stove and having to split wood, hauling and loading wood that sometimes I'll get a banger up shin, pinched finger, smashed toe, etc. Did any of the cast suffer similar injuries.
